Keep Crom and crush you enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women.

Hi hive mind,

I think my post got deleted so reposting.

I'm playing this solo to learn the rules and im not sure if im building the galaxy correctly.

Its turn 2 and the feds have made first contact with the romulans and have no other resource nodes.

The klingons could make first contact soon as well.

It seems everyone is too close. Ive got with the 18' in the rule book. What gives?

Are you building directly toward each other? If so, then yeah, you can make contact very early. Most players don't do that, though.

Dude, you created about half a dozen threads about this. You may want to delete a few copies.

You don't have to play towards the middle of the triangle. There's supposed to be place around the triangle to place. The rules suggest that you put the triangle in the middle of a 36" square, but it'd also be okay to use a circle, perhaps a slightly larger one. (40-41" diameter has the same area.)

http://startrek.gf9games.com/Home/tabid/56/entryid/126/star-... is an example square setup (for 3 or 4)

Strategically, most people seem prefer to put their early colonies backwards, towards the sides and corners of the play area where they can be defended, instead of rushing to make first contact. But you can get a significant boost by starting trading early, and it's not like you won't have a chance to explore more defensible planets later, so I think a strong case could be made.
