Solomon's Temple, released in 2001 by Cactus Game design, is an entertaining game that combines both historical accuracy and an exciting game mechanic. Players of the game compete to be the first to complete the building of the Jewish Temple constructed by Israel's second king, Solomon the son of David. To do so, players must build the main hall (Holy Place), the Holy of Holies, the outer porch, and the two pillars of the porch. Finally, the Temple must be furnished with 13 furnishings that were found in the original temple. Think this sounds to simple, think again. Your opponent will be trying to slow you down by playing sin cards which will prevent you from building unless your priest offers up a burnt offering on the altar. Also, you opponent will be constantly attacking with Babylonian Armies which will destroy your temple if you are not careful. But, by keeping the breeches in the wall closed up with gates and carefully using your Israelite Army cards, you can defend your new construction. In the deck, there are also a variety of other cards that help you in various ways such as increasing your build speed or letting you search your deck for various cards. Once the temple is complete the first person to play their Filling the Holy of Hollies card wins the game. Personally, I especially like how much this game follows the biblical account while keeping the game interesting. Therefore, I would recommend this game to anyone who has an interest in Biblical history or enjoys a game with this type of mechanic.
