I had a spectacular time being the Geek of the Week. Thanks again to Chris for nominating me and to the community for engaging with me. I never cease to be amazed by the absolutely wonderful people who make up this hobby of ours. But, I digress... it's time to pass the title to someone new. So without further ado:

I nominate Raf Cordero!

Aside from being a super cool dude and dad, Raf is the co-host of the Ding & Dent podcast, which I've taken quite a liking to over the past year. He and Charlie both have a very casual, laid-back demeanor and a great chemistry that makes them easy to listen to. It's clear they put a lot of effort into their content and love games. But enough from me, let me allow Raf to introduce himself more properly...

"Rafael, or Raf, was born in Guatemala and has spent his life moving ever Northward. He currently lives outside of Chicago with his wife, 1.5 year old son, and a dopey but lovable dog. A little over a year ago he founded Ding & Dent along with co-host Charlie Theel. It's a boardgaming podcast where they take board games more seriously than they take each other. He also writes for Miniature Market's The Review Corner.

Around the Geek he can usually be found lurking the general forums and chatting in one of the awesome GCL lists. He's can be found all over the internet as captainraffi. When he isn't gaming, he's works at a chemical plant outside of Chicago where his job is to stop leaks before they happen and prevent things from blowing up. As an enthusiastic homebrewer and amateur foodie, he likes good beers, dark liquors, and the kind of food you can eat."

My usual question: Have you a favorite wizard? If so, who? If not, why? And which game (if any) is he/she from?

When green is all there is to be, it could make you wonder why. But why wonder? I'm green, and it'll do fine: it's beautiful, and I think it's what I want to be.

Congrats Raf! I always enjoy your enthusiasm during the Secret Santa Exchange.

So I'll use that as my question: what is it about the BGG Secret Santa event that you most love?

Thanks! This is a really tough question and I rattled through quite a few before settling. It has to be Area Control/Area Influence. The difference between the two are slight enough for me to lump together. I really like it because of how so many of the good ones have a game-within-a-game thing going. On a tactical level, each area is a small battle for control but you can't lose sight of the overall goal of whatever leads to victory. It can be easy to get bogged down fighting over individual spaces. My favorites in this category are the COIN Series (all of them), Kemet, Clockwork Wars and two from this year - Cry Havoc and Godfather: New Don.

Another hard one. However, as Tom points out, I can always get the delicious flavors of a taco from other tortilla based food delivery systems. There is only 1 (7?) Star Wars.

It's really rewarding to have this little person who is already developing such a personality recognize you as an important thing in his life. Both when he's exciting or (like this morning) when he isn't feeling well, he runs to me and my wife for emotional support. I can't begin to describe that.

Babies take up a lot of your time. Who knew?! I still laugh at myself for having bought a few solo games to play "while on paternity leaves". Yeah right.
