It does rock. The Vassal mod is pretty good. Count me in.

Great game, although sadly I'm overcommitted in my online board gaming as it is already.

I'll give it a shot using Vassal. Shall we use any optional rules?

Oh great! Umm, I've never played anything like this before, so I'll need some direction. I am well-read on the rules for Successors.

Is this a turn-by mail type deal, or will we all have to be on line at the same time and play in real time?

I haven't done much Vassal myself, but I think we take our turn and email the files to opponents when we're finished?

I've played in person many times, so I have the rules down at least.

Use dropbox to share the files, and emails for notices/discussion.

Ok, dropbox is not free, but I have a Google Drive shared.

Somebody take the "Leader" position and get the ball rolling, I'm ready!

Okay, so we're good for Vassal and Google Drive.

Someone (proficient with Vassal) want to start a game, and the rest of us can join?

What player colors would everyone like? The first four who opted in are:

Can we at least play with the optional rule (23.5) of not putting Eumenes and Seleucus general cards in with the other Tyche cards? Makes for a more balanced game, and no extra rules overhead.

Edit: Okay, so I figured out how to start a game, but I'm not sure how to distribute the random generals. I'll take a look at the User's Guide later tonight, but if someone wants to get a jump start on the game, feel free. Looking forward to it!

Ok great! I will poke at more tonight (in a few hours - I'm at work right now).

I will PM my email addy to you guys, and my Google drive share link.

To assign the starting General, each player has a window for his Faction. In the buttons there, you can see Draw General. Note - if you Eliminate a General it is gone from that game forever.

Also, I see no way to put counters for Eumenes and Seleucus on the actual game map. Anybody?

Prob makes them available only after someone "takes" their general card. In which case that wouldn't happen unless someone has a general killed and uses a 4-ops card to get either of the new generals (via 23.5).

Email sent.

That seems likely. This vmod seems to have a nice polish!

Ok, we have 3 of the 4 players linked with email.

Still need Carlos

Ok, I'm close to setting up a game on line.

I can't seem to create a "room" for us though. What is the trick to creating a "room" on the Vassal server?

And, how can you find my game, and how can I find your game if you create one?

Mark, I already created a game. Sorry, I sent an email, but didn't think to also mention it here.

In any case, if we're playing via email (or google drive), we use the "offline" option.

I placed a file on the share drive. See if you can open it and "play" the log file. I just wrote some text so far.

edit: I think using a "room" is if you're all playing live.

Wait, that is a red herring...

I have completed Red initial Deployment, and have loaded the file into the google drive!

Someone take the file, draw your two Generals, deploy them, save the file, and upload the new file (don't over-write)!!!

It's ON!!!

Great! I loaded your file, which is a blank start game,

drew my 2 Generals, deployed them and their troops, put down my control makers and collected my VP.

I saved the file as ... Red Set - 2

Next up!

Great, I just did the same and uploaded the file.

I'm all the way in the East with Perdiccas and Peithon.

I'm not sure which way will be easier on Vassal, but I find in person keeping units and royal family members on the general cards to be less fiddly. It's easy to look on a general card and see at a glance what is stacked with him, rather than having to physically move the stack. It's also easier during movement to just move the general counter (and only mess with the counters if leaving something behind). But, I'll play it however everyone else wants to here. As long as we're consistent.

Files should be sequentially numbered.
How are we doing die rolls? I recommend ACTS for die rolls and as a journal.

I see 2 copies of the game start file and 2 copies of the red set vsav file. Any reason for this?
