Subject: Books that capture "Combat Commander"? rss

Can anyone recommend some easily accessible books that capture the scale of Contact represented by Combat Commander, I mean more "on the ground" type descriptions of smaller tactical engagements, that might even cover the differences in the units as represented in the game, and weaponry over the course of the war. Stuff thats also specific to various scenarios and Campaigns available in CC would be cool also to get some context to the cardboard stories evolving on my desktop

The Other Side of the Hill
- B H Liddell Hart, Discussion of emerging tech and its affect on war.
> a fellow Brit to you; The Germans adopted his ideas

The Red Badge of Courage
- US Civil War fiction capturing the essence of battle
> if you can empathize with the protagonist, charging MGs is easier

I'm Okay and You're Okay, and That's Okay
- 1970s Psycho commentary on human response.
> the study of war is the study of people

---> this last book was originally titled 'I'm Not Okay and You're Not Okay, and That is Okay'. The publisher felt it needed a more positive title.

What about 'Band of Brothers' by Stephen Ambrose? I haven't actually read the books, but I remember the miniseries having a similar feel to CC, squad level tactics and combat.

Company Commander, by Charles B. MacDonald.

This is the classic account of infantry combat during WW II

Man, you're in for a treat. Band of Brothers is my all-time favorite tv show/miniseries, I think I've watched it through a good 10 times. Wasn't particularly impressed with The Pacific though.

Here is a thread on this topic, from a forum of Chain of Command, a rules system for miniatures. The topic is "First person platoon action accounts", which might be a bit small, but some similar books are suggested.

The Forgotten Soldier

Perhaps not action packed and full of combat. But a great book on that era.

Thanks all, I've made a list with most of these plus a whole load more and sent the requisition form to my commander in chief. Corporal Santa will be in charge of the supply drop, let's hope he gets Rudolf through the 88's on the way here
