Has anyone thought of a more linear scoring for popularity rather than just the three tiers, as a way to tease out a bit more differentiation between say, one persons popularity of 6 and another with 7?
I was experimenting with making the base results of the tiers centered at 3, 9 and 15, so a scaled formula is:
We tried a bunch of different versions of the popularity track, including one kind of like this. But we found that it's easier for people to grok the chart if the payoff within each section (by category) was the same. Otherwise we're asking people to read a detailed spreadsheet from across the table.
Yeah, it certainly doesn't work well without a spreadsheet or app. But I'm curious as to how it affects game play knowing that there isn't a huge scoring cliff anymore, for example, hesitation to attack, or playing a turn maximizing popularity might decrease.
