About to play for first game...

Rules state that the Federation can not invade any planets.
So to confirm: they can initiate space battles? Clear out all the ships of an opponent, then attempt hegemony? Is this the only way for the Federation to take over control of a planet from the Romulans or Klingons?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. And even though it isn't very intuitive that also includes if they are trying to take back Earth after loosing it.

Yeah, we also noticed while I was teaching the game that Invasion isn't even listed as an option on the Federation reference card. And then we forgot about it later in the game and they took a planet from me through invasion.

Must have been Kirk. That guy just does not care about the Prime Directive.

The no invasion policy appears to have been temporarily suspended during the Dominion War also...

This also means pre-warp civs are completely off limits to the Feds, so hopefully you don't discover several close to Earth. They can only be useful if a rival colonizes them, at which point they are eligible for hegemony as they are now warp-capable. cool

Were there any large-scale ground invasions launched by the Federation during the Dominion war? I can't remember any, the ground fighting I remember was mostly defensive. But I could be wrong.

I think the Klingons did the bulk of the boarding and invasions. Federation did mostly defensive and tactical raids.
