"What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?"

That's a shock... he brought a consistent world and innovation to the world of solo gamebooks. RIP.

I met him a couple of years ago at Dragonmeet. They say "never meet your heroes" in case you get disappointed. On the contrary, I met a man who didn't seem like an escapist to me at all, at least not in the usual sense. Someone who had met many of life's challenges head on and won. He had quite a few stories to share. And a spark in his eyes, of the kind that I'd always imagined Lone Wolf would have.

I'm glad I got the chance to tell him how much of an influence he had on my childhood and that of my friends. Growing up in a small city in northern Greece, discovering Lone Wolf in my school library. It spread like wildfire: my close friends first, then the kids in my neighbourhood, schoolmates, everyone.

Rest in peace Joe Dever. Thank you for inspiring us, for entertaining us, for allowing us to explore through play something as rare as it is awe-inspiring, at a young age: what it feels like to be a hero. Thank you.

This year forget that, this MONTH has sucked too.

I think I saw a Lone Wolf book when I was a kid and we used to go University Mall, when my Dad was stationed in Pensacola, FL. Waldenbooks used to carry D&D stuff and they had those books, and even Fighting Fantasy too!

Then I found Project Aon where he gave his blessing for and played Flight From The Dark. It's simple but you can see a great system. It was very challenging, brutally challenging. The "Dark Souls" in those days.

Sad to hear the Grand Master has passed.

Rest in Peace.

That badge of honour has to be reserved for Fire on the Water (the second one). But I digress..
