If you do not like bidding on Turn Order Cards maybe there are some useful alternatives here:

What you need:
- linen bag to use for drawing faction tokens
- faction token for each participating player (tokens, dices or something like that in different colors but in the same size – you can even use still unused starbase tokens or nodes)

1. No First Contact has been established
The tokens of all players are put into the bag. Each marker is blindly put out. The player to which the first marker belongs chooses his Turn Order Card first and so on…

2. First Contact was made by some players
Only tokens of players who have made first contact are placed in the bag. Further procedure as described above.
After that the tokens of players who have not made First Contact yet are placed in the bag. Further procedure as desribed above.

3. All players has established First Contact
The player with the most First Contacts chooses his Turn Order Card first and so on… Players involved in a tie place their markers in the bag and so on…

alternate Step 3 (reward the faction who „behave correctly according to their nature“)
The order in which the Turn Order Cards are chosen depends on how many „Racial Culture Bonuses“ each faction has achieved in the previous round. Players involved in a tie place their markers in the bag and so on…

Have you tried the alternate in the book, where you put in twice the number of turn cards as players, and then draw from only half of them? Haven't heard from anyone about that one yet.

And this is why there are ten Turn Order cards in the box!

I get a chuckle when video reviewers show the audience the ten cards and gasp at the thought of playing this game with ten people.

laugh I'm still gasping at the thought of Five Players. But I'll give it a shot, when the time comes.
