I'm interested in Shadows of Brimstone, any recommendations for which set/expansions to start with? I heard on some video that some of the "original" miniatures weren't great but that the quality improved.

Thanks!

Either Swamps of Death, or City of Ancients. And if you like it, grab the other one in short order, as it will almost double your game (more hero classes, more monsters, a second Otherworld, etc).

Generally speaking, City of Ancients has slightly easier rules (Swamps of Death has the Preacher -- a spell-casting class -- as well as ambush rules coming into play more often), but they're both meant to be introductory to gameplay.

I'm 3 days old with Shadows of Brimstone, but I started with Swamps of Death mostly because of 2 things - Zombies and Harbinger.

I will be getting Cities of the Ancients asap though.

Base your decision entirely on which classes, monsters, and Other World you find most interesting. And yeah, the other core set should definitely be the first addition that you get for the game.

If I had it to do again, I'd buy both through ffp's sale right now. Hehe.

But if I was only gonna buy one, I'd definitely get city.

But that is 100℅ because I like the heroes from it better. The marshal and saloon girl are two of my favorite classes.

As was mentioned, after your first core set, youll want the second core.

After that you'll want the frontier town expansion.

After the town you'll want some deluxe enemy packs.

I'd go with City of the Ancients first to have more thematic Wild West heroes.

Gunslinger, Bandido, Saloon Girl, Marshall

How are those any more or less thematic than: Lawman, Indian Scout, Preacher, and Rancher?

I, personally, feel like the gunslinger is the most iconic wild west icon. And the preacher is the least.
So, if the rest are a wash that still puts city ahead :-)

I guess you haven't seen "Pale Rider".

Another question about this set vs CoA. Do they both use the same mine tiles?

About 1/2 and 1/2. They share the same "hallways" and 2-4 generic rooms, but about 1/2 of them are also unique rooms that have unique event cards to go with them.
