Decolonization, De-Stalinization, and De Gaulle are obviously not headlinable

Formosan Resolution is just a waste of everybody's time

Five Year Plan is basically praying for Marshall or Containment (or maybe Defectors)

US/Japan Mutual Defense Pact only wastes 1 Op if I were going to put 4 Ops into Japan, which I wasn't on T1

Nuclear Test Ban is 3 VP, but headlining a 4 Op on T1 makes me want to cry

And Europe Scoring risks a -2VP Socialist Governments and wastes the potential for a very easy Europe domination on T1.

I'd do Five Year Plan just for the off chance that you can catch the Soviet with CIA Created. He won't play it, but you might get an early China Card play out of it.

Given that hand I'd probably lean towards 5YP - whether I pull something good or not from the Soviet hand is secondary to limiting their options and possibly forcing them to use the China card.

Five year plan almost certainly. Might play Formosa since it uses up least ops, then control Taiwan since it would protect S Korea a little from Korean War and be at least temporarily a battleground.

I don't like FYP here. USSR can play CIA at DEFCON 2 just fine. Like theory says, all it's good for is triggering a good US event. Can't even hit the de-cards with it, as he holds both.

Pretty sure I'd headline USJM here, if I wanted to dominate Europe first turn. If I didn't, I'd HL Europe instead.

US/Japan for sure. It's not merely "wasting" 1 OP, it's potentially screwing with a USSR Asia Scoring in the headline, and getting in early protection for S. Korea. It's also a card that you want to remove from the deck before you are forced to fill Japan anyway.

Surely US/Japan.

Obviously it's a 4-4-2(4-3-3 with EU Scoring must be kidding) and you have to go France in T1, then more probability of losing Iran, so early investment in Thai/Korea(s)/Japan is good. Also, you spend only 1 op to remove the null 4op from the deck, that's acceptable.

You have 2*4s, 2*de-cards so 5yp only gives you benefit when get Marshall/NATO/Containment/D&C/RS-P/(NORAD? I don't think so), which is really with low probability. (USSR won't have direct access to mid-region until Turn 3, so 3op for 3op is NOT worth for US)

Headline NTB is a great spiritual attack to your opponent, but it does not return the price in most games.

Edit: I mean headline NTB in EARLY WAR, actually SALT/HILTSW+NTB are great combos, may provides you 5-8 vps towards a wargame/autowin status.

I think the possibility of taking Blockade out of the opponent's hand should be considered (unless you set up empty WG).

I had this one yesterday, i think i had no other option than NTB as headline.
Usualy i do my best to keep deco-card in my hand but in this game i spaced it early for few reasons:
-2vp for 1st space race attempt (already had 3 from NTB)
-allowed me to play UN with socialist
-drawing one more card turn2
-easiest hand management turn2 (blocade and redscare)
Basically i wanted to maximise my ops/vp early on and with such a decent hand turn1 im confident to be installed in Africa by the end of turn2.
Do you think this was a wise choice?

I'd definitely headline NORAD over NTB with that hand. I completely agree with spacing Decol and using UN with SG.

I'd probably have headlined Cambridge Five (or maybe NORAD) over NTB. It's T1, so I don't mind revealing that I have no scoring cards, and it gives me 2ops extra at a critical juncture for the U.S.

Yeah, I'd headline NORAD. One extra Op left in hand, and an ongoing event that can be irritating for the USSR.
