If you're wondering why something is on the Hotness, ask here,
and maybe someone will answer.

For today, I'll just note that the following were on sale yesterday:
Oceanos
Amerigo
The Big Book of Madness
Zombicide: Black Plague
Tokaido
H.P.: Hogwarts Battle
Chicago Express
The Others
Claustrophobia
Battlelore 2.0
Escape: TCotT
Alhambra

I feel like this has been attempted before - maybe with a thread in BGG Community or someplace like that.

Anyway - one alternative if you have a questions about why-hotness for a particular game is to ask in that game's General forum. I've wondered that a few things and I think they've always managed to solve the mystery (sale somewhere, kickstarter of some type, that sort of thing).

If I were a BGG admin I would change the hotness every so often just to mess with people.

Same here. I'm guessing something went haywire, or some one (or some group) decided to mess with it & BGG shut it down to address the issue.

Well, it's winter. Maybe they're replacing it with The Coldness.
