Hey. was searching the geeklists and couldn't really find anything I was looking for so hoping someone can help.

anyone have any suggestions for a good quick game (under/around an hour).
3-5 players
doesn't take up too much space (carcassone was too big)
preferable not a card game
and is a "take that" kinda game

so far tried
nexus op (took my group too long, games were around 90min thouh people loved it)
fearsome floors (didn't take off)
carcassone (was a hit just too big with tiles kept falling)
zombie town (too long again around 90-120min. moderate hit)

First thing that came to mind is Metro. It's beyond "take that", most of your actions are to hurt other players more than to help yourself. Takes about an hour.

Define "too much space" a little more. Are you specifically looking for small footprint games, or just games smaller than Carcassonne's possibility for branching out.

For example, is Metro, which was recommended, still too big? It's about average size I would say.

If you want average-sized games:

Citadels
Hey! That's My Fish!
Through the Desert
Taluva
Mykerinos
Attika
Blue Moon City
Ingenious
Thurn and Taxis

card games but check them out:
Bohnanza
Bang!
Guillotine
Coloretto

Also double-check the number of players for these....

Except for the space confinements, I would say Drakon (third edition). It's a great great choice for all of your other requirements, but it could get to be about as space-intensive as Carcassonne at times.

Escape from Atlantis would have been my second recommendation, but it only takes up to 4 players, so I guess it won't work either. Citadels is a great choice, but it's a card game, though it doesn't feel like one.

The Downfall of Pompeii plays 2-4, has a board with a small footprint, is not a card game but has cards, features tossing people's citizen into the volcano (take that!), plays in 45-60 min

Hmmm, finding games good two to five poeple under an hour is hard. Several of the games mentioned above could easily stretch over one hour with five people, Citadels for example. By the way, did the games have to be playable with five or is two to four ok also? How about three to five? Also, if you want shorter games you will mostly get lighter games. But perhaps that is what you want?

China is a rather competetive game for three to five players. No exactly take that perhaps, but there is certainly interaction.

Winner's Circle plays up to six, and you can really mess with your opponents. Good horse racing game, should easily finish under an hour.

Clash of the Gladiators is a very underrated game here. It is a rather simple fighting game, but if you want direct interaction you got it. Very balanced stats for the different types of fighters, I really like it. Plays up to five players.

This may seem like a strange fit at first, but how about Liar's Dice?

Hi, try fairy tale this one is a card game but it must not be overlooked, truly a beautiful game.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/13823
It's a point scoring game at heart where certain cards must meet various conditions to give points and works around a very clever drafting system. This game has never failed for me.cost around £10.00 english pounds.
