We are going on a vacation for 18 days. I hope to find a few lighter games that are compact enough to bring along and be able to play with both 2 and 3 players. I have a 6 year-old and 11 year-old boy.
Some of the games my boys own and enjoy are Circus Flochati, Amazing Labyrinth, No Thanks, Quirkle, Pickomino, and Piratissimo.
Obviously I cannot take the board games or Quirkle along, but just to give you an idea of what we like.
Any recommendations? Looking for small size, like card games primarily. Must play in 20 minutes or less.
Thanks!!

Re: good games to take on a trip for kids
Thanks Dan, just remembering my youngest is 6, so a couple of those might be a little out of his range.

A little heavy for a 6 year-old, and I need it to accommodate 2 or 3 players. But thanks. I am thinking more in the family game realm.

Why not Qwirkle which comes in a little zip bag?
ETA - Tried to link to Travel Qwirkle. It's very portably sized.

Dexterity:
Rhino Hero (de-box: it's just cards and little rhino figure)
Animal Upon Animal (de-box: put pieces in a ziploc bag)

Others that might be a little much for a six-year-old, but maybe...:
Best Treehouse Ever card drafting and tableau building, cute theme
Qwixx dice game, no theme

Welcome to the Dungeon
Dragonwood
Eight-Minute Empire
The Game on Fire (compilation)

The earlier HABA recommendations (Animal upon Animal etc.) are excellent too.
Have great holiday!

We do not play the actual game, but we keep a deck of cards from Would you rather...? in the car.

It gives my 8 year old girl a chance to read more and we all get to laugh at the choices people make. It also keeps my 5 year old boy from fighting on long car rides with his sister.

For actual games we take on trips:
Rhino Hero
Brandon the Brave
Chomp
Jungle Speed

Game we take to a restaurant:
Dragon Slayer (played with modified rules)

I am proud to have opposed those who describe all who oppose them as "Tender Flowers" and "Special Snowflakes".

Doesn't play 2.

Have you considered Splendor? It's rather hilarious how much larger the box is than it needs to be; the whole thing could fit in a ziplock bag. Very simple rules, but compelling even for adults.

Ghost Blitz can probably be repackaged in a plastic deck box and a plastic bag. It's a great game of reflexes and pattern recognition. My daughter is five, but she can probably beat many adults.

SET is good if you play with the simplified beginners selection of the cards.

I want to chime in favor of the lesser known Zombie Kidz. It is a cooperative board game in a very tiny box. Because it is a co-op, a child can play easily with the guidance of an adult or an older sibling.

Finally, Animal Upon Animal is a great manual dexterity game that kids can enjoy, and it can be repackaged to be extremely portable.

Co-ops are great. If there's a tablet available, perhaps an electronic version of Forbidden Island, Forbidden Desert, or even Pandemic might suit you, too.

Sleeping Queens has always been a hit with younger kids at game night and is perfectly pleasant for older people, too (with kids). Great pick!
