Now I've only played twice but why does the starting money track start at 1? We haven't even come close to lowering our starting credits that much, why start it at 1 if your starting money is 20? Have people played games where it goes alot lower?

It sounds like you're not playing quite right. Terraform Rating and Megacredit Production are tracked separately: TR on the score track around the edge of the main board, MC Production on your own player board. During production, you add them up to see how many megacredits you get, but TR counts for final scoring, where MC production doesn't (except to qualify for the Banker award).

The scoring track (on which you track TR) starts at 1 for a few reasons:

d10-1 In the solo game, you track generations on that track, starting at 1.

d10-2 When your score goes over 100 (which does happen regularly, though not in every game), it's nice to have the scoring track start at 1 so you can start a new lap!
