Just a few questions:

How much interaction is there?

Does it play like any other games?

How much variety is there in the game environment beyond just different map layouts?

Interaction is fairly low. It is a race though. You can mostly only interfere with others' plans by scooping up an item/defeating a monster before them to force them to travel further away.

It has the hallmarks of a Feld design--interesting action-selection mechanism, engine building, satisfying combos--but without the multitude of ways to score points and with a distinctly non-Feldian win condition.

In addition to the variable board, you also have different player (ship) powers and will acquire different equipment cards each games.

Very little as was said above - it's typical euro interaction - someone get something first or takes better place before someone else.

Other Stephan Feld games or any other game?

Very much. With different ships powers you will probably never play two the same games in your life.
