I'm heading to the beach next week with my big family (11 adults, 7 of whom will play games) ... they've played Ticket to Ride and Citadels, and loved them, but I'd like to try something new ...

anything recommendations out there for 5-7 players that's fun, social, beer-friendly but not stupidly easy?

The Downfall of Pompeii
Werewolf
Wings of War: Famous Aces
Tsuro
Blue Moon City
Fearsome Floors
Five sets of Battle Line
Liar's Dice
Can't Stop
Coloretto
Kung Fu Fighting

I couldn't figure out if "beer-friendly" meant spill-resistant, or just easy to learn. Some of these, like Werewolf, will support 11 players. Most play well with at least four, if you split into two groups. I would search the geeklists for the word "camping" for some other possibilities. Most of these are pretty light, but not stupidly easy.

Card games such as BANG!, Bohnanza, and The Great Dalmuti have always been big hits in our family.

The best pull-out-quickly-and-play game (and please, no dirty jokes) I have is For Sale. Saboteur is also a good one to play with larger groups.

Diamant handles up to 8 players rather well and is easy enough for anyone to play after watching a single round. I take this when traveling with family and have had success with a lot of different people.

If you don´t mind spending time on a slightly longer game, try RoboRally. So much fun in larger groups, and accomodates up to 8 players. After a few beers your spatial thinking will probably be slightly "off", but this should only increase your fun. . Otherwise, Bang, as was mentioned above, will probably be a hit. Pun intended

Ruckus may be stupidly easy but it is FUN. Seems to hold up under repeated plays, too, just flies right along, and the graphics keep folks interested. Tends to favor the quick--which might become interesting as the beer flows...

Hit or Miss is good, especially with people you know. It's less a trivia game than a group think/psych-out joking kind of game in which you're trying to (quickly) figure out both things that everyone will think of and that no one else will think of. The latter category is where the humor comes in. Oh yeah, and you have to know the difference between the two -- sometimes my obvious choices turn out to be the obscure ones!
