Hello,

Quick question, is it worth builing plutonium bombs when playing 5 players (maybe also 4?).

With 5 players you only need 45 points. Building plutonium bombs and imploding them to get the extra points seems like the long route to 45 points. It actually forces you to build 3 seperate bombs.

Haven't played much 5p yet, but I'd love some insight from players who did.

We played a game with 5 that took exactly that, 3 plutonium bombs to win.

If you can only produce plutonium it is probably a good idea to build plutonium bombs

Uranium bombs are more efficient on a fissionable material to point ratio. They also tend to take fewer engineers to build. The only downside is the extra money it costs to generate Uranium.

The value of one over the other is really down to what bombs are available in the draw and what reactors/enrichment plants are available in the market and how cheaply you can get them.

And the competition with other players. Ultimately you want to be where others aren't. If everybody's fighting over Uranium, you have a better chance at winning with Plutonium.

I've played quite a few five player games, and have often used the Plutonium Strategy, which can actually be done with just two bombs, if you get the right blueprints. Build and test a small bomb (eg the ay caramba, b flat, or nutcracker, all of which need four plutonium). This gets you 8 points, if you are first to test, or 6 points if you are second). Then build the Big Bang (32 points), or the Last Word (34 points), and pay the loading cost: 34 points for the bomb + 5 points for bomb loaded + 8 points for the bomb test = 47 points. If you've got the Big Bang, you need to get the 8 points for first to test, not the 6 points for second to test, but it is possible (and I've done it more than once).
