I live in aus and mechs vs minions is not easy to get.
what are some good programing games of a similiar nature that might fill the void?

There's the classic RoboRally. Or it's little brother RoboDerby: Express which was reimplemented commercially as Pirate Dice: Voyage on the Rolling Seas

Definitely the closest game in feel to MvM is Roborally, though it's not cooperative.

I agree... but he could also try Bomb Squad and/or Run, Fight, or Die!. To me, both share some gameplay elements with Mech's vs. Minions..

Bomb Squad - cooperative, movement programming

Run, Fight or Die - fighting off an ever advancing horde of zombies/minions.

If you do PNP, you could do Weapons of Zombie Destrucion, the game upon which MvM was based.
