I am about to host a 2nd Edition game in a few weeks after not playing the game for many years.

I remember that one or two races seems rather over/under-powered.

Hacan were very good, xxcha rather week.

Any thoughts or comments?

We never had a problem with that once the players were experienced. If you let the Hacan have his trade contracts and if no one stops the Letnev from deploying all those precious ground troops you can't really blame the balance.

I've heard on this forum that 2e is faster and just as good as 3e. I'd love to try it but good luck finding a copy of 2e!

How many players will you have ? More players tend to smooth out any balance issues.

We'll have 4 to 6 players (probably 6).

About races, I just checked some of them:

Is it a misprint or balance that some races (e.g. the two from Hope's End) don't start with a carrier? That means they can't colonize in the first turn.

Also: How do you play the Sol ability with the additional ground forces? If you don't play with Manifest Destiny, they get either one or two additional GF, that's it, right?

Finally, there is nothing one can do to prevent the Hacan from having trade agreements...
