I'm curious what the base number of users on BGG? I know there will be some burner accounts on this number. I'm also curious how many people have supported BGG at one time.

It would definitely offer some good perspective to know the ratio of, say, Codenames owners to total BGG users. Is that 50% of BGGers? 5%? 0.5%? Although, regardless, those are some impressive numbers it's putting up.

There are currently just over 1.4 million user accounts. Those are not all active, of course.

I believe the average month sees ~200,000 unique visitors to the site (and this past month we saw a record 300k unique visitors).

Edit

Give or take a factor of 10

I would be curious to know what the total amount across all games added to collections marked as 'owned' is, if such a number is available.

Classy microbadge statement. Very nice.

So by the stats it looks like BGG has an awful lot of non registered users. I have a suggestion related to that ... you have an annual fund raising banner at the top of each page in December, how about a banner that pops up occasionally for visitors, advertising the benefits of registering? No fund raiser push, just get them signed up.

(obvious caveat that I have no way of knowing whether BGG already does this, as I am always signed in)

Hilarious that a game you buy at Target is #1 on a Board Game site as OWNED.

Target now sells many designer board games. Looking online right now I see Roll for the Galaxy, Imhotep, City of Iron....

But I agree with the point that Codenames has become THE mass-market game most liked by hobby gamers. Or THE hobby game most considered mass market. I'm happy to say I did not play it once this year and hope to continue that trend.

I just happen to not enjoy it much at all, and avoid it. But I understand the attraction.

This stat list is awesome because it shows us what games people are actually buying. Good stuff.

On a side note, Carcassonne and Catan as the fifth and sixth most bought games in 2016 is pretty impressive.

I think they are partly high because many new users already own them when they entered their collections in 2016. We can't discriminate between when a game was bought vs when it was entered into BGG.

If I log in at home, at work, on my phone, and at a friend's house, does that count as four different visitors?

Correct, but the year is not entered by the user, it's just based on whether the "owned" box was checked by a user in calendar year 2016. So a new user entering his whole collection in June 2016 will be included, even though he bought most of those games before 2016.

What I meant to write is, WHEN I log in at home, at work, on my phone, and at a friend's house, does that count as four different visitors?

I'm actually curious to know the answer.
