Finally pulled this to the table for 2 quick games while watching about a third of a movie. Time is fleeting with work and kids.

Game 1
Card: Trade Pod

Focused on Blob and Star Empire cards. Didn't get bases quick enough and lost authority quickly, but was able to recover enough so that the Blob and Star Empire combos took down the Nemesis Beast in the last few rounds quickly

Barely scraped out a win. Tried to cull the deck quickly with Machine Cult cards, but they never aligned with my discard or draw deck! With 3 Machine Cult Cards in the deck from the 2nd round on, I only managed to remove 2 of the original starting cards! As a result, the deck got far to bloated. Got bases early and took little damage, but the bloated deck without additional card draws caught up with me. When the Blob or Machine Cult Cards aligned, I smashed the Nemesis Beast, but then 3 rounds would go by with no alignment, and it smashed me. It took me down to 1 authority and another bad draw would have killed me, but swapping out a couple of cards allowed me kill it before it killed me. Close game.

Got to Trade Pods during the blockade which served me well, and then focused on Machine Cult. Still didn't cull the deck as quick as I would have liked, so the damage didn't accrue as I would have liked it later rounds. Still, by acquiring several bases and outposts, I held off damage, securing a fair victory.

After my initial win I had 5 losses in a row and wanted to try one last time. (I apparently forgot to report my last 3 losses with the Ram. I must have suppressed the painful memories).

I went back to the Trade Pod and, like my first attempt, I got very lucky with the embargo. 1st round I got 4 scouts and the trade pod for 7 coins. With the embargo I picked up an 8-cost Blob world. The other 3 scouts came up next and I got the 4-cost Blob Destroyer in round 2.

The Blob world showed up in round 3 and since the NB hadn't built up enough attack, the base ended up scoring 25 damage from rounds 3-7 while also helping the other blob allies. Once I also picked up a Command Ship I knew I had everything under control. I had the NB down to 2 on round 9 and then finished with 26 points of damage in round 10.

Lots of playing on the computer version of Star Realms, but I'd never broken the cellophane on the decks in my physical copy that I bought 2 years ago... That changed today just because of the challenge!

I spent about 30min 1st trying to thoroughly mix up the cards. Shuffling & reshuffling and working with an ever changing set of 5-10 subsets of cards.

Not sure how much that helped or hindered as, whilst a good mix of cards seemed to be coming out, I drew the Ram as my starting Blob card and saw no other Blob cards during the 3 round embargo.

Luckily over the 1st 5 or 6 rounds I managed to buy 3 fed (Blue) ships with decent Authority regen... That evened out the NM drawing 4 Fed cards in the 1st 6 rounds, meaning I wasn't managing to get it's Auth down yet.

Luckily before long the NM started drawing a few Star Empire cards, so whilst I was taking increasing damage from the +1 incremental damage I was able to keep the Fed ships in my hand and actually raise my Auth.

By around turn 10 I'd still only bought 2 additional blob cards - blob works and the mighty blob destroyer. The game was getting close, I think I'd have lost without my bases and Auth regen...

Then when I was down to 8pts Auth left, the combination of Blob Destroyer and Ram came up for 16 pts of damage when NM was on 5 authority, leaving it at -11 and destroyed!

By the way - mrs JD saw me p[laying and asked me to teach her it after dinner! Result!

Couple of quick Questions though, as it was my 1st time solo with the physical game:

- I started the game with a 3 card hand as usual. Is that right or is there any special start for solo? I guessed that starting with 3 wouldn't be any better than you get if it is different.

- When NM ability is a blob and you have no base, does it use the 3 dmg attack immediately or on its next attack? I applied it immediately as a separate 3pt attack.

Thanks very much for the challenge and driving me to finally open up the physical game!

Very slow to get going as no blob cards during the embargo, and the cards available were all too costly. I hit -9 while NB still had 17 Auth left.

It's as if Blob cards know to hide during the embargo rounds... NB had 26 left when it hit me for 16 to take me to -1.

I'm not going to give up on the Blob Wheel....

At the end of round 10, I had 5 Auth left and the NB had 29. No way I can beat it, but let's see if we can minimise the loss...
Then, by using cards that let me draw a card, alongside ones that would usually destroy a base (so give me a choice/let me burn through my deck) I somehow manage to work my way up to dealing 39 damage!

I'm pretty sure that that was my best single turn in all the games I've played (on the computer). If not the best, it's certainly up there.

I'm a happy space captain.

To answer your questions, some solo cards change your starting hand, so yes you would use the 3 card starting hand as usual for the Nemesis Beast.
You are correct, the NB Blob ability is an additional 3 damage attack if you do not have a Base.
