Sorry if these are covered somewhere, but how does the loss marker move?Is it when the British take losses? And if that's the case, do you move it as soon as a unit takes it's first sp loss?

Hi Jared,
The "Loss Marker" moves + 1 not at each SP loss but only when a british unit become reduced or eliminated (note that it moves -1 when a boer commando is eliminated). This occurs at the end of each boer fire (after the "morale tests" for leaders and in the same time than "Confidence Marker").
It can be too moved during the "boer event segment" if, after a commando release not possible, there is a "Boer sortie" which results in a british battery elimination.

Thanks for the info Jean, that's a big help. Where does it say that in the rules? I've been over them, but I can't find anything about moving the loss marker...

It's indicated in 10.6 rule. For the moving of this marker (and also for the Confidence one), you have to see the "Status Chart" (not in the rules booklet but on the separate "Charts and Tables Card").

Hi Jean,

First, thanks for all your help, you have an excellent grasp of the rules!

We've had various queries as regards the loss marker. Following are official amendments which should make the loss marker rules clearer:

AMENDMENT 6.3 Boer Event Segment: “If a battery is eliminated by a Boer sortie, refer to the Status Chart (movement phase) and adjust the Confidence and Loss Markers.”

AMENDMENT 9.5 British Status: “If Boer units are eliminated, refer to the Status Chart (fire phase) and adjust the Confidence and Loss Markers.”

AMENDMENT 10.6 Boer Status: “If British units are reduced or eliminated, refer to the Status Chart (fire phase) and adjust the Confidence and Loss Markers.”

G.

Will these be uploaded to the files as well? Note: maybe just have one file of corrections/clarifications instead of two or three?
