2017 is really starting out well in terms of gaming. My first play of Snooker Solitaire and I grabbed a tournament win (only my third in 14 plays, I believe). Not only that, but this session had all the best the game had to offer. Heartbreaking fouls seemed to doom me, until on four separate occasions I sunk long colors with lucky rolls. This had all the thrills and spills of a full snooker tournament, and I continue to love the personality of the opponents. Truly a masterful game from Mark Tuck.

Round One: beat Billy Yards (7) 41-27
Round Two: beat Eddy Collins (5) 39-32
Quarter-Final: beat Tony Thompson (4) 49-37
Semi-Final: beat Jimmy Potter (2) 56-41
Final: beat Joe Lewis (3) 60-44 (52 break)

The quarter-final was an incredibly tight match against Tony 'Typhoon' Thompson, who sunk some fantastic pots to pull ahead, 37-31, with only the three highest colors remaining. Obviously, you can tell I needed the black. I sunk the blue and the pink to pull into the lead, but the black lay all the way across the table. I was out of power AND chalk -- and the required power? 6. The crowd goes wild!

The final was calm by comparison, as I racked up a 52 point break against Joe Lewis, sealing the match. He returned to the table, but actually failed to escape the snooker I had left, granting me 4 more points. I sunk a few more to run away with the match, 60-44.

Rules
I've also re-read the rules just to make sure I haven't been inadvertently fudging, and I don't think I missed anything major. Fine Cuts apparently have to have a clear path (which I mostly follow as the times you'd have a ball snookering you while attempting a fine cut are very rare). Also, in one instance I should have fouled when I rolled snake eyes on a 1-difficulty shot. But other than that, it looks like my plays have been squeaky clean, rules-wise.

Advanced Shots
Haven't been trying the advanced shots either, but plants look like they could be a really handy shot to use to save chalk, especially on the initial rounds. When I roll a 6, I'll almost always up my power, so that gives me more options for shots. Spin, on the other hand, I still can't wrap my head around so I think I'll just pass on that for now.

Of course, in my next game I had a disastrous Quarter-Final and an ignominious early exit from the tournament.

Thanks for the great game, Mark
