Justice Department inspector general to investigate pre-election actions by department and FBI

Quote:
The Department of Justice Inspector General will review broad allegations of misconduct involving the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email practices and the bureau’s controversial decision shortly before the election to announce the probe had resumed, the Inspector General announced Thursday.

The probe will be wide ranging — encompassing the FBI’s various public statements on the matter, whether its deputy director should have been recused and whether Department of Justice or FBI employees leaked non-public information, according to a news release from Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz.

Lawmakers and others had called previously for the inspector general to probe the FBI’s pre-election actions when it came to the Clinton probe, alleging that FBI Director James B. Comey bucked long-standing policies with his communications about the case and that information seemed to have leaked inappropriately — perhaps to former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Horowitz said in a news release that he will explore those topics and more, though he will not re-litigate whether anyone should have faced charges.

About time.

There is a fair amount of polling evidence that suggests Comey gave us Trump. Lot's of undecideds broke late, after Comey's second attempt at interfering with the election, and that story (contrary to my own expectations) may well have depressed Democratic voter turn-out in key areas.

The DoJ's Inspector General also said they would be looking into the FBI's decision not to prosecute Clinton for the e-mail scandal. So it may be even-handed, but nobody is going to like the outcome and this will only add fuel to the fire.

In the hotbed that is Trump World, I am not sure i would welcome the news that a watchdog group will be investigating Dems. This may prompt an equal backlash, that could get Trump embroiled in his own investigation, and possible scandal. Time will tell....i suspect the public would be more interested in the Trump investigation, than the Comey one, since it focuses on the NOW, and not the past.
