So, I printed out a smaller version of the firefly board to try and save space. This gave me an idea: is there a way to make a firefly version that kids could play? I have a seven year old, and she just doesn't have the stamina for a full game. Pretty sure it would require a major revamp in stories, jobs, and movements. I'd love any suggestions, even if the suggestion is I'm an idiot. Thanks!

For example:

Use only standard Fireflies
Simplify movement: lose the NAV decks altogether, instead do a simple roll-move. This probably also means you get rid of Reavers and the IAV Dortmunder.
Get rid of the financial elements. Jobs, Crew and Equipment are a simple draw 3/pick 2. Possibly strip down those decks to include a subset of options. Possibly there's only one contact for jobs, but you can get jobs from anywhere.
Limit active jobs to one. First one to 3 completed jobs wins.

Obviously this needs play-testing, but it should at least give you a starting place.

I know that George has posted about stripped down version of the game he plays with his kid. It's basically a series of fetch quests across the Verse. You should be able to find it by searching his posts.

Thanks, folks!

So, here's the "kid friendly" version of the game I've been playing with my daughter (now 7) for a few years. As Carl notes, it's largely a treasure hunt, and does away with a lot of the mechanics of the "grown-up" version of the game:

And here's a kid-themed supply deck (some princesses, fairies, pirates, Octonauts, and others):

My 8-year old mopped the floor with us grown-ups last week. We were playing "Patience's War" with all expansions. He skunked us 3 goals to zero.

This wasn't the first time.

We have an 8 yr old boy going on nine, who we have been playing Firefly with since he was 7yrs old.
Wife and I came up with a Firefly Jr variant that I posted here:

https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1512591/firefly-game-junior...

Our son loves it and it is one of his favourite games, we play often, although we play less of the "cash grab" story cards now, and more of the P&BH story cards involving PvP pirating and bounty jumping. But he still likes to make more money than Daddy if he can (this also gives him a chance to be "second winner" too, if he doesn't win by competing the story goals)

We have found that playing these rules have helped with his math as he counts his own money and adds bonuses and subtracts crew pays etc for job payouts, and has helped with his decision making with strategies of play regarding crew compliments, jobs to accept and so on.

I hope this helps.

on the opposite end of the spectrum (or Spectrum for any Wray Nerely fans),
is the "Adult" version of Firefly: the Game
with Drinking Game rules (For the Mudders!)
and clothing removal (I'll be in my bunk)

I kid, I kid. (I suppose such a thing could be possible, but I haven't seen or tried it yet)
