I know someone that has used a hex map from Chessex but all he did was draw the original map on the hexes. What I'm thinking about is taking Zonedaddy's map and printing it out on a vinyl banner, like the kinds that you see at conventions or stores instead. I wonder has anyone used this or other options with vinyl write on mats for SOTN?

Consider putting the board under thin plexi. Walmart poster frames are a cheap option.

Agreed. Plexi covering plus wet erase markers like the Expo Vis-A-Vis. A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser makes any tough spots disappear when you're done. (It also does a trick on stubborn dry erase markings.)

Unless you really want the upgrade to vinyl, another option is to make a copy of the board and laminate it.

Or just print two 11x17 sheets and write on them.

I took one of the custom maps here on BGG and blew it up to about 2' x 3' and had it laminated. I then use the wet erase markers on it.

Copy the map sections with your printer/scanner. Write directly on the copies.
