I'm moving to D.C. this Summer and will be looking for regular MeetUps. Aside from searching that venerable site, does anyone have any suggestions for groups or FLGS to check out?

Check out the Games Club of Maryland:
https://www.gamesclubofmd.org/
which has locations all over the DC area (and elsewhere in the region as well).

There is a Gaming Cafe called Board and Brew in College Park. I've been once and it seemed pretty decent. Food was good, there was plenty of space, and the game selection was the biggest I've seen so far in my gaming career.

I've also heard some good things about Labyrinth Games and Puzzles. I haven't been in that store yet though.

The Labyrinth Game Store (best one in the DMV) has a Thursday night game night which is very good and welcoming. It is located a half a block from the Eastern Market Metro

I second the previous suggestions. The best consistent Meetup I've come across is the Beer and Boardgames Meetup on Friday nights in Crystal City. It's metro accessible with a large crowd of welcoming players.

Also, don't forget about WashingCon in September.

There is a MeetUp group called "Non Traditional Board Games" that has events held regularly in Silver Spring. They also do events centered around gaming in general, e.i. posting for WashingCon2 etc.

NoVa Jacks meets at Comics & Gaming on Main St. in downtown Fairfax every Saturday from noon to 8:00p. We've played over 700 different games since beginning in 2000. No commitments; no fees or dues; just fun. You're welcome to game with us any time.

Labyrinth has been my FLGS since they opened their doors. Amazing place, great people. Kathleen, the owner, has stuff scheduled almost every night of the week. Definitely check them out. Best game store in the region by far.

There are several game stores in the greater DC area

--Labyrinth Games and Puzzles (http://www.labyrinthgameshop.com/) is the only one actually *in* DC that I know of. Very good store.

--Dream Wizards (http://www.dreamwizards.com/) is in Rockville, MD. Doesn't have quite the selection of board games the others on the list have.

--Play More Games (http://www.playmoregamestore.com/) is in Gaithersburg, MD. Decent selection, good owners.

--The Family Game Store (https://www.familygamestore.net/fgswebapp/) is in Savage MD. Neat location, good selection.

--Comics and Gaming Fairfax (http://www.cgoffx.com/) is in Fairfax, VA. a bit on the small side, but more good people.

--The Island Games (http://www.theislandg.com/) is in Centreville, VA. Haven't had a chance to visit them, though a friend of mine runs demos there occasionally and speaks highly of them.

--Third Eye Games & Hobbies (http://www.thirdeyegamesandhobbies.com/) is in Annapolis, MD, about a 45 min drive from the heart of DC. The biggest store in the are with the biggest selection, Great people there, the biggest downside is that it is also the farthest from DC while still considered the DC Area.

As others have mentioned, Games Club of Maryland (aka GCoM) (https://www.gamesclubofmd.org/) is a great resource for finding other gaming groups.

There are also a few small gaming conventions in the area, including
--GCOM Winter Games Fest (http://winterfest.gamesclubofmd.org/)
--GCOM Congress of Gamers Summer Session (http://emsps.com/cog/summer/)
--TCEP (https://barkingmad.org/)
--WashingCon (http://www.washingcon.com/)
--GCOM Congress of Gamers Summer Session (http://emsps.com/cog/fall/)

So, hope that wasn't too much info...

Thanks all! I'll be moving out there in August and look forward to checking out all the places and groups you mentioned. I'll be working in Arlington and don't know quite where I'll be living yet, but a little commute has never kept me from gaming!

See you soon!

Games & Stuff is also a good store thats a bit further out (Glen Burnie, MD) but has a really huge selection + equally as huge gaming space. Plus, they run events all the time.

Three meetup groups worth checking out for events in DC & Arlington:

Beer & Board Games (Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings)
DuPont Circle Gaming Group (Sunday afternoon)
Alexandria-Arlington Regional Gaming Group (Sunday evenings, monthly Saturday events)

Also in the "further out" category but an awesome store with lots of selection and lots of gaming going on is Huzzah Hobbies in Ashburn, VA.

Full disclosure: the owner is a friend of mine. But I've seen him build the business up from selling off second-hand gear from friends on eBay to a continually expanding store in Ashburn and a second location in Sterling. Great guy, great store, friendly gaming atmosphere.
