We seem to be getting the trappings of such in a big hurry

Quote:
Declaring a National Day of Patriotism was among Donald Trump's first acts as president of the United States, press secretary Sean Spicer said on Twitter.

It was not immediately clear when that day would occur. There was also no immediate detail on whether this would be a presidential proclamation or a call for a federal holiday.

Correct me if I'm wrong Sandy, but isn't that what July 4 is supposed to be about? My God, enforced shows of forced "patriotic fever" would probably be as pathetic as it gets if we did not have this little bon mot from the inauguration speech

So different/incorrect thinking will be frowned upon. And the "United" America Donald envisions seems to be a bit on the exclusionary side based upon his recent actions.

Quote:
A pastor with a long history of inflammatory remarks about Muslims, Mormons, Catholics and gays preached at a private service for President-elect Trump and his family on Friday, shortly before Trump took the oath of office.

The pastor, the Rev. Robert Jeffress, is a Southern Baptist who vigorously campaigned for Trump during the final months of the presidential election and is a member of his evangelical advisory board. "I love this guy!" Trump has said of Jeffress. Before the campaign, Trump, a Presbyterian, had no apparent connection to the pastor, who leads First Baptist Church in Dallas.

Jeffress has also called Islam and Mormonism heresies "from the pit of hell," suggested that the Catholic church was led astray by Satan, accused Obama of "paving the way" for the Antichrist and spread false statistics about the prevalence of HIV among gays, who he said live a "miserable" and "filthy" lifestyle.

Within moments of President Trump’s swearing-in Friday, webpages about LGBT rights went missing from the White House and Department of Labor websites.

A search for "HIV/AIDS Strategy" also failed to yield any results.

The disappearances could signal the new administration is planning to make changes to certain protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans.

And of course those of the Islamic Faith. You know the ones that The Donald stated were not able to assimilate even if they were the second generation born here (old news but still relevant)

I truly fear the hateful direction this administration is bent on taking us.

I don't think he could successfully start an internal war without starting an external one first. Japanese internment is still well remembered. But ... I didn't think a man like him could be elected in my lifetime.

Sounds like a poll is called for, except I have no idea what the candidates would be. Other than 4th July, when would you celebrate (a) the USA, (b) Trump's vision of the USA?

I predict if this ever happens, it will become a rallying date for pro and anti Trunp rallies. Often in dangerous proximity.

Not exactly everything. The "important" things to the Trump administration was put into place almost immediately.

As in environmental rules are out, and in its place

Quote:
The Trump White House website now says "President Trump is committed to eliminating harmful and unnecessary policies such as the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule." These are two contentious Obama administration rules that President Trump can't simply undo by himself; both will require either congressional action to change the underlying law or a long regulatory process to reverse the policy.

and

The Obama White House listed "civil rights" as the first among "top issues" on its website. The new Trump White House website does not mention civil rights at all but does list as a top issue "Standing up for our law enforcement community." Specifically, the site says, "The dangerous anti-police atmosphere in America is wrong ... Our job is not to make life more comfortable for the rioter, the looter, or the violent disrupter."

But as far as LGTB issues

Quote:
The Obama White House legacy website includes a section on Obama's effort to preserve gay and lesbian rights. "President Obama has led the fight to protect everyone — no matter who you are, where you're from, what you look like, or whom you love," it says.

The Trump White House website says "Sorry, no results found for LGBT," and the only "gay" result is a reference to the "gay friendliness" of Grace Anna Goodhue Coolidge, wife of President Calvin Coolidge.

The priorities of this new Adminsitration, quite telling

It is definitely going to be a long 8 years if you continue your mindless groveling at The Donalds feet, long for you that is. But do keep up the intellectually bankrupt "logic" that putting thoughts into caps magically makes them pearls of wisdom. At least that will be some entertainment

Drew, how isn't this really bad? I don't understand how ignoring civil rights or climate change that puts billions at risk, regardless if man made or not, is not "Really bad". Just removing the preexistingc clause is a huge change.

This isn't crying wolf. It's just locker room talk.

As far as climate change, Trump not only eliminated Obama's entry, his entry on the subject promises to eliminate the Climate Action plan.

But Drew does seem to be lost in his little right wing bubble so facts or evidence just does not seem to matter much right now

No, I bet people will notice.

Look at the conservatives, their lips kept flapping for a continuous eight years, and the country didn't seem to tire from it.

Since that power sweep play kept working, we're just going to use it.

Better buckle in, Buttercup.

Presidents Day
Flag Day
Independence Day
Memorial Day
Veterans Day

How do we not already have several national days of patriotism?

I believe that is precisely the point.

Maybe he wants a day where all the male Patriots get to unfurl their peckers, bedazzled and bejeweled in red, white, and blue sequins. Firm and stiff with pride, for all to see.

We would randomly choose one of those "other countries" and send dickpics of said Patriotic Pecker displays, with encouraging words like

"Suck on this! Fuck you, from the US of A"

"Hey, you small-peckered countries. This is what a real man, in a real country has got between his legs! Fuck yeah, H'America"

"Look at my Hemi equipped Hot Rod - with revving engine sounds -!"

Yeah, I think that about sums about the average, adolescent view on American Exceptionalism.

Actually, not really, though it's a decent one as well.

Most of those days that Drew mentioned are days in honor and remembrance of people who largely deserve the accolades. An explicit "Day of Patriotism" is not the same thing. Patriotism is love of homeland, right or wrong. I don't subscribe to that, personally. I think it's a bad thing in general...not just when applied to America, but when applied to humanity.

I'm proud of very, very much of America's historic legacy, and I'd love to see it propelled into the future. But that's not the same thing.

I think Flag Day is a little silly but I cut it some slack since it was my Grandfather's birthday.
