Thinking of buying a new game for my collection (PR, B.Lore, Settlers, etc). The two games I'm looking at have a little higher complexity, which I like - Tide of Iron, or Arkham Horror. I realise I'm comparing apples with oranges, and asking which is better, but I hope my criteria will help.
1. Single Player -
Which of these two games is more enjoyable single player? When I'm bored I like to play a game, but sometimes I can't find an opponent. So being able to have a fun match single player would be a big PLUS.
2. Length -
I'm detecting that AH is longer, but by how much? Is AH a 5 hour epic game that will only be played on rare occasions?
3. Current Collection -
I already own BattleLore is this "slightly" filling a battle niche in my collection that might detract from purchasing ToI?
Do you have a preference?
Just tell me which one you like better?
I have played both and as you say…They are not comparable.
1: Arkham Horror is the only game you can play solitary unless you are going to play both sides in ToI.
2: Arkham is not an epic 5 hours game. Our AH games usually last about 3 hours.
The playing time for ToI is about the same (depends which scenario you play.)
The replay factor is quit high for both games.
They are both great games. Buy both! If not then the weight goes to AH because of solitary games.
I haven't played ToI yet, but from what you said, if you are going to buy just one game then Arkham Horror is the best choice!
I have played both and for pure variety of replay value Arkham Horror would be the best bet. The added bonus here is that there are three expansions available right now for AH if it gets repetitive at all (Dunwhich Horror, Pharoh's Curse and King in Yellow (just out last week)).
TOI is basically the same thing over again with different maps, expansions will be forthcoming but not for a while. TOI has a bigger 'toy' factor in that it looks more appealing when set up but would be less suitable for solitaire play.
Hard to make a bad decision here in any case.
Seriously, turn off Facebook. You'll be happier.
Wow -- too close to call. Better get both.
