Hello!

My game group needs some new games, we are six friends that meet every month or every other month.

It almost never happens that we end up being six players, usually four or five.

Most played games is :

Cosmic encounter with all expansions. (The favorite of the group).

7 Wonders.

Ticket to ride USA+Europe.

Pandemic with expansions.

Smallworld/Smallworld underground.

Any suggestions for good 4-6 player games?

Heavy euros have been tried and failed with this group. Very light games and party games is not very popular.

Have you tried Camel Up? It is very light, but does actually have more strategic depth than what is readily apparent at first glance. It's kind of a filler that works up to 8. It looks like a roll and move, and it's based on that mechanism, but crucially, you don't have your own player piece. Instead, you place bets on which piece will win the leg and which piece will win or lose the whole race.

Ave Caesar plays up to 6, and is definitely best with the full player count. It has stood the test of time surprisingly well if you ask me. I don't like the art on the newer reprint though, and I can't understand why they removed the alternative tracks. I own one of the Ravensburger versions, and would not trade.

Dominant Species probably isn't the right thing for your group, since it's a pretty heavy euro. But it plays up to 5, and it's a combination of worker placement and area control. In case you didn't know about it, it might be worth taking a look at. I personally don't like it much, but it's the kind of game that some people just love to bits, so I thought I'd mention it.

I highly recommend Mission: Red Planet (Second Edition). Given what you already like, and the 4-6 range of players, I think this one will be a slam dunk.

Judging from the weight and style of the games you've listed, I would also recommend King of Tokyo, but I personally think the King of Tokyo: Power Up! expansion is an absolute must, if you're going to play this game. It really should have been included in the base game, in my opinion.

A couple other possibilities:

If you want the "mostly off-the-table" style of Cosmic Encounter, you might enjoy Sheriff of Nottingham, though it only seats up to 5.

I think the next step up from 7 Wonders is Among the Stars, and I think you'd probably love it, but you'd have to get the expansion that adds a 5th and 6th player option (the base game only holds 4). Also, you'd need plenty of table space....

El Grande
Catan plus expansion for 5-6 players
A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition)
Power Grid

as I list these, i come to realize how much the classics fit your request...
I´m sure there are plenty of newer games, but these ones should be easy to get

Sequence, Twilight Imperium, or Risk all have six player capabilities.

Thank you for all the recommendations!

I already own these games:

Camel up (A bit random and light, mostly played with kids).

King of Tokyo +powerup expansion (Use this as a filler, played a lot!)

Catan (One of my first games, never seems to hit the table anymore).

Game of thrones (I have a trouble with the balancing in this game. Some starting positions seems worse than others).

Power grid (Still play this from time to time.)

Risk (Im done with risk, will never play again, outdated in my eyes)

I will look into mission red planet, ave caesar and among the stars.

The other games I have played, and dont think I will purchase.

Thanks for all the good advice!

Not too heavy. Tactical. Flexible for 4-5P: Istanbul with its expansion Istanbul: Mocha & Baksheesh.
It does well adding the "coffee" currency; imho, 'last expansion made for too many layers.

+ 1 Concordia, especially with 5 players.

If you want more theme, you can jump on the bandwagon for
The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire (up to 5P) ... or Terraforming Mars (4P).

Give New Bedford a try, it can play up to 5 players with the expansion which also introduces new content.

It's work placement game, but not at all heavy. It's easy to learn, easy to teach, and is a blast to play.

Jamaica plays up to 6 players out of the box. While on the light side, it's a solid game.

Spartacus: A Game of Blood & Treachery might work for you. Another backstabbing/negotiation game. Base plays four, plays six with the expansion.

Mission: Red Planet (Second Edition) +1 A classic, great mix of area control and bluffing.
Mysterium +1 If you like co-ops, this is a very different and fun one. Also plays up to 7.
Libertalia +1 I love this game, it's quick, easy to learn and has a lot of depth and interaction.
For Sale +1 One of my favourite fillers, I think everyone should try it.

Evolution: Climate This is one of my favourites and it does a great job with integrating theme and mechanics to create a compelling, interactive light strategy game.
Cutthroat Caverns If what you like from Cosmic Encounter is the bluffing and backstabbing, I'd look into this one.

I like King of Tokyo too (which feels more like a party game to us).

I'd suggest Incan Gold as another quick filler for large groups. Diamant if you can find it.

If you like Cosmic for the negotiation/backstabbing and Pandemic for the coop, then maybe Dead of Winter. It's core is a coop, but the possibility of a traitor and the hidden agendas always leaves you second guessing everyone else.
