Scenario Summary

The Ravens are once again in the Merchant District, searching the ruins for Wyrdstone before it gets dark. As they comb through the rubble a flaming man suddenly bursts out of one of the buildings screaming! The Ravens scatter to avoid the man as he flails past them, crying out in pain. After a few seconds he disappears off into the buildings again and silence resumes. 'Well', says Sylvester, 'that was weird'. 'Welcome to Mordheim', Feggins responds flatly with a smile.

The surprise broke up the Warband, splitting it into three groups. Boris is alone by our cart, Meshell, Grimwulf, Feggins and Sylvester are a little way south, and Klovis and Seidel who apparently thought it was some deadly spirit ran much further then everyone else and are now alone far to the West!

Seidel and Klovis -the two Blue Icons on the North West side of the map- begin well off their mark, with all the other Ravens over to the East!

Turn 1
As Seidel and Klovis catch their breath Seidel taps Klovis on the shoulder and points to the next junction in the ruins. There's another cart here, fairly close to our own! The burning heretic nailed to a post on top can mean only one thing- Witch Hunters! 'Klovis, let's get back to the others', hisses Seidel. 'Wait lad', says Klovis looking down another alleyway. There's a large Wyrdstone deposit at the other end. 'I'll grab them stones, THEN we head back to the others', he says with a grin. Klovis runs to the stones and fills his sack with the choicest pieces. He then turns back and the two start to make their way to the other Ravens.

Feggins who is up in the top floor of a building is first to spot the enemy. Its a Zealot, one of the Witch Hunter's rank and file lackeys. He appears to be looking for someone, supposedly the crispy fellow that just ran through the area. From the Zealot's colours it appears he belongs to the Grim Punishers, a Witch Hunter Warband known for taking their victims live, disabling them in some way (such as setting fire to them) and then running them through the ruins in a sort of twisted hunting game. Feggins doesn't hesitate and raises his Bow, firing on the man.

Feggins is first to spot the enemy and does not hesitate to attack!

The arrow lands just short, alerting the Zealot to our presence, 'HERETICS! HERETICS!' he yells out to the other Punishers. This could get messy and fast!

Boris is also collecting Wyrdstone, and turns to make his way back to out cart. As he approaches it he hears the Zealot's shouts and draws his weapons, just in case the Zealot approaches our cart. As he lies in ambush the Punishers' Warrior Priest bursts out of hiding and charges him! Boris is knocked flying as the Warrior Priest charges in and smashes him with his heavy Warhammer.

Boris is suddenly attacked by the Punishers' Warrior Priest!

The Zealot Feggins saw also runs in whilst Boris is distracted and he is caught between the two enemies!

Boris is in big trouble, pinned by the Warrior Priest and Zealot!

Meshell and the others realize their Captain is in jeopardy and rush to help him. Unfortunately none of them can quite reach the fight! Grimwulf casts Snow King's Decree on the Warrior Priest, a spell that will punish the enemy for every blow he strikes against a Raven! Meshell also gets close enough for a ranged attack and shoots, but her shot misses as she tries not to hit Boris.

Back on the other side Seidel reaches the Punishers' cart. Another one of the Punishers' victims is lying on the ground, most likely waiting their turn on the flaming stake. Seidel loots the corpse and then riffles in the cart, stealing 26 Gold Coins.

Seidel finds the Punishers' cart and proceeds to rob them blind, taking their protective idol and knocking their Morale down in the process!

Seidel then rips down the Punishers' protective idol. 'Hey! He's got our Banner!', comes a call from behind him which is immediately met with others from the buildings surrounding them! 'Run lad!', shouts Klovis, 'Get it to our cart! It'll make a nice table cloth for the Captain!'. Seidel runs on with the banner in hand. Crossbow Bolts wiz by as he goes.

Turn 2
Seidel brakes from the alley where the Punishers' cart is and into the square close to our own. Crossbow Bolts fly past his face as he comes into the open. 'Halt you thieving heretic!', an authoritative voice calls out. Its Torben Von Mirellasohn, the Punishers' Witch Hunter Captain. 'Give back our banner and we will give your men a head start in the hunt', offers Torben. Seidel looks at the banner in his hands, smiles, nods and turns tail, running for the Raven's cart! 'Stop! You shall ALL suffer for this!', Torben calls after him as he gives chase.

Seidel waits until the Witch Hunter Captain falls in line behind him, then he makes his move. He throws down the banner and does a 180, taking Torben by surprise. The Witch Hunter Captain runs straight into Seidel's counter charge. Seidel sweeps his Greataxe around, slicing into Torben and his flimsy armour. The two then exchange blows, Torben landing a couple of hits back against Seidel.

The Witch Hunter Captain attacks Seidel for stealing the Punishers' Banner!

An arrow suddenly strikes Torben, stumbling him. Seidel looks up to the buildings on his left where he sees Feggins who waves briefly before drawing another arrow and firing again, striking the Witch Hunter once more.

Feggins supports Seidel with a couple of well placed arrows!

Klovis also emerges from the alley and bulldozes into the Witch Hunter Captain.

Klovis also joins in against the Witch Hunter Captain, who is now hopelessly outnumbered!

Boris holds his cool despite being outnumbered and continues to fight against the Warrior Priest and Zealot. He lays into the Warrior Priest in a furious attack, hacking at him over and over! The Warrior Priest remains resolute despite his wounds and the two enemies riposte with their own attacks. The Zealot makes his move first, but Boris shoves away his clumsy strike with his Shield and kicks him in the balls! Unfortunately this opens him up to the Warrior Priest who once again smashes him back against the wall with his Warhammer, bringing Boris down to critical condition! Luckily the other Ravens come running in to defend their Captain. Grimwulf strides in and smashes the Warrior Priest with his Ulrican Greataxe. Sigmar seems to be with the enemy though, and the Warrior Priest survives with just a single point of hp remaining!

Seidel has much better luck, and as Klovis smashes into the Witch Hunter Captain's back he swings his Greataxe forward to meet him as he falls forwards. The blow nearly takes the Witch Hunter's head clean off, and it remains attached only by a bit of spinal cord! Seidel is spattered with blood as he makes the killing blow.

Seidel scores the killing blow on the Witch Hunter Captain!

Seidel lets his adrenaline rush through him, and without missing a beat turns around and runs forward for the other Ravens, grabbing the banner as he goes. He reaches Boris and the others and brings his Greataxe up and down on the Warrior Priest, nearly splitting him in half in another splash of gore!

Seidel continues his kill streak by striking down the Warrior Priest too!

Sylvester jogs up to Klovis who is still standing over the dead Witch Hunter Captain. 'What's going on?', he asks in confusion. 'We're winning', smirks Klovis, 'Grab his stuff and try to keep up!'. Klovis heads on towards the rest of the fighting whilst Sylvester loots the Witch Hunter Captain. He finds an ornate pair of Crossbow Pistols that are sure to fetch a few coin back at the encampment. He also finds a satchel brimming with Wyrdstone! The stones bring us up to the quota for our secondary objective! Now we just need to finish driving off the enemy. He jogs after Klovis and the others.

Turn 3
With both the Witch Hunter Captain and the Warrior Priest dead, the Punishers' morale is critically low.

Feggins jumps down from the building he was in and joins Klovis and Sylvester. He spots an enemy, another Witch Hunter, probably the last bit of leadership holding the Punishers' together! Feggins fires, putting an arrow through him.

Boris is still pinned by the Zealot but ducks under another swing of his Halberd. He once again returns the attack and unleashes a flurry of Sword strikes, landing several quick blows on the man. Grimwulf takes a few steps back, then charges forwards and swings his Axe overhead and down, slaying the Zealot in a single hit!

Grimwulf slays the Zealot, rescuing Boris!

The Ravens consolidate and all turn to look on the lone Witch Hunter. They gather together and walk forwards slowly as Seidel picks up and displays the Grim Punishers' banner. The Witch Hunter stands considering his options for a few seconds, then turns and runs for his life!

Victory!

Hooray! Our heroes make this look easy.

I think this is the first time we have ever taken the protective idol of another warband. Do we get any other reward for that, e.g. being able to sell it for a pile of filthy lucre? Or is the only bonus that of really hitting the enemy warband's morale hard?

We've actually nabbed the enemy's idol a couple of times in the past, Grimwulf was the first to do so on Day 2 if I remember correctly!

Both the enemy and ourselves have a Protective Idol on our carts. As an action you can stand before it and pray to receive a protective bonus against picking up Wyrdstone (as you suffer a random taint effect for every piece you touch) as well as a bonus to All Alone tests (made when you are outnumbered at least two to one in a fight) that lasts 2 Turns.

If the idol is stolen your Warband would take a Morale drop as if you had just lost a Hero.

Additionally the person that steals the Idol gets Liberator's Boon which makes them super fast (+3 Meters per Movement action) and allows them to take the Dodge stance for free! There's a good reason for this though, their position becomes open knowledge to both players on the map so the enemy can always see who has stolen the Idol and where they are.

The secondary objective Crush Their Will requires you steal the enemy Idol AND return it back to your own cart! This is generally almost impossible due to Mordheim's aggressive AI.
