Welcome to the 12th PBF for Clash of Cultures on BGG!

Game type:
This will be a 4 player game using the base game and the Civilizations expansion, as well as the following options/variants:

1. Self-moderation: The players use geekrolls to determine their events/regions/wonders themselves (see description below).
2. Variable End Game - Roll to End: As described in the rules p. 23.
3. Choose your civilization: Instead of receiving a choice between 2 random civilizations, the players may choose their civilization (including the Aztecs).
4. Maya civilization: Their "Calendar" Advance will be modified as follows:
"Before you trigger an Event, you may spend 1 Culture token to draw 2 Event cards instead of 1. Trigger one of those Event cards and discard the other."
5. Lead Us (optional): As described in the Civilization rules p. 11. -> Will be used
6. Alternative 4-player map (optional): Use of a different layout for the 4 player map (see picture below). Be aware that this is a more aggressive map layout. -> Will be used

Seating order will be determined randomly, though I'll probably take the liberty to rearrange the seating order to take into account the players' timezones to create a more natural turn order, if needed.

First player will be determined randomly.

Requirements to join the game:
1. You must own a copy of the base game and the expansion.
2. You should be comfortable with the rules.
3. You must provide me (by leaving a reply in this thread) with the following information:
- Yes/No answers regarding the Lead Us variant and the alternative 4-player map.
- The civilization you want to use, and your starting Leader (in case the Lead Us variant will be used).
- The name of your first city (optional; max. 12 letters, including spaces).
- The colour you want to use (blue, green, red, or yellow).
- Your timezone (GMT).

Civilization & colour choices will be accepted on a "first come, first served" basis.

Invites have been sent out to the following BGG users:
♦ Nicopenny
♦ IncrediSteve
♦ selwyth
♦ eurofabio

In accordance with human history, this is a game of conflict. Enter at your civilizations own risk!

General explanations:

Action & Objective cards:
You will receive your objective & action cards via geekmail. I will only send you the card titles.

Map specifications:
♦ Cities: You may name your cities. (Max. 12 letters, including spaces!)
♦ Mood & Culture tokens: The Mood and Culture tokens have been added to The Scale together with the resources, instead of counting them separately.
♦ Turn track: The turn track is split in two halves: Rounds 1-3 on top & rounds 4-6(7) at the bottom.
The colour of the turn marker on the turn track indicates which player's turn it currently is. The gray marker will be used to indicate that we are currently in the Status phase.
♦ Events: Events which have lasting effects will be listed under "Events".

Self-moderation:
When you need to draw an event, or reveal a region or a wonder, you must roll a die according to the following methods:

♦ Exploring: If you want to explore a region, use a geekroll to roll 1dx, as indicated at the top of the "Exploration"-area (1d16 at the start of the game).
Your explored region will be the nth tile (starting from the top) in the list, "n" being your die result. Skip any already explored regions.
If you explore and you roll a previously explored region (because I didn't have the chance yet to update the list), simply reroll the die until you get a region that hasn't been explored yet.

♦ Wonders: In order to reveal a Wonder, you use the same method used for exploring regions, i.e. use a geekroll to roll 1dx, as indicated at the top of the "Wonder"-list (1d7 at the start of the game). Skip any already revealed Wonders.

♦ Events: If you trigger an event, use a geekroll to roll 1dx, as indicated at the top of the "Event"-list (1d58 at the start of the game).
The result of your die roll will be your triggered event.
If you roll a previously triggered event (because I didn't have the chance yet to update the list), simply reroll the die until you get an event that hasn't been triggered yet.

The annotations listed between brackets for certain events are there to identify the different versions of the events (written in white), and/or to remind you of their event icons (written in black):
- You: The event only affects you.
- You+: The event affects you and 1 or more other players of your choice.
- All: The event affects all players.
- B+: Event icon "Barbarians Spawn!"
- B>: Event icon "Barbarians Attack!"
- E: Event icon "Exhausted!"
- G: Event icon "Gold Mine!"
- P: Event icon "Pirates!"

Label your rolls! Insert "Exploration C3 to D4:", "Triggered Event:", "Revealed Wonder:", or something similar, in the "Comment"-section of your roll.

Posting player moves:
♦ You can help me, and others following the PBF, identifying the different players by posting in your corresponding player color (see examples in the next post).
Also, please try to be clear on your actions and resources.
♦ If it is your turn, please submit your 3 actions in the thread.
If any of them trigger an event, reveal a Region or a Wonder, roll the appropriate die as described above.
DO NOT EDIT A POST CONTAINING A DIE ROLL! Continue your move in a second post.
(Also, FYI, every die roll in a thread is saved under "thread rolls", even if they have been deleted from a post, so I'll know if you try to cheat Fortuna.)
♦ You may submit your actions even if the map hasn't been updated yet after the previous players turns. If there is confusion or information missing you will have to wait for an update.
During the first few rounds, and if the potential moves of the player(s) before you will not influence your decisions at all, you can send me your plans via geekmail if you want too, so I can post them for you if you are currently not available.

Player trades:
♦ If you want to trade something, simply announce your offer in the PBF thread. The ensuing bartering can be done via geekmail between the players.
The result of the trade will then be announced in this thread, and needs to be confirmed by both of the involved parties.
♦ If you want to exchange or trade away an action and/or objective cards, simply announce that you trade a card (or cards) and send me a geekmail with the card name(s).
I'll then send an updated card list to each involved player.

Combat Round sequence:
1. Attacker declares if he plays an Action Card or not. If he does, he sends me a PM with his card.
2. Defender declares if he plays an Action Card or not. If he does, he posts the card here in the thread and does the necessary rolls for his card.
3a. If the Attacker didn't play a card, the Defender can immediately roll the battle dice for both sides.
3b. If the Attacker played a card, the Attacker resolves his card and then rolls the battle dice for both sides. (I'll do this if I'm back before the Attacker.)
4. Casualties: If there is a choice to make (i.e. kill Elephant or Cavalry), Attacker chooses casualties first, then the Defender.
5. Attacker decides to continue or retreat. If he continues, go back to 1.

Updates:
♦ You can usually expect at least 1 update from me every day.
♦ To keep the game going it would be great if you could submit at least 1 turn (3 actions) every day. If you are not available for an extended period of time, please let the other players know when we can expect your next update.

(No to Lead Us because I think it's too easy to pick the right path of Leaders to play with instead of dealing with what you've got -- the CoC way). But defer if outnumbered.

It will be yellow then. I actually had an orange set in my previous PBF files, but didn't bother to port it over to the new layout (same for purple). And the old files are gone now.

As for the options, they will only be used if a majority says yes.
So far we have:
° Lead Us: 2x Yes, 1x No - needs 1 more yes to be used
° Alt. 4-player map: 1x Yes, 1x No, 1x Abstain - needs 1 more yes to be used

So basically eurofabio's vote decides.

And that makes 4 players.
Lead Us variant and the alternative map will be used.
Of course, for the extra challenge, choosing a random Leader is always an option.

Let me just quickly say that I'm very pleased that we'll play with four different civilizations than the ones from the previous PBF.
Diversification makes moderating games more interesting for me.
Especially looking forward to see how the Celts will play. Haven't seen those in action yet.

Player order:
1. 1custom4{Nicopenny;IncrediSteve;selwyth;eurofabio} -> ( selwyth) -> ( selwyth) (First Player)

Edit: What am I doing? I wanted to arrange you according to your time zones to get a natural turn order flow. So...
1. selwyth (First Player) [GMT -8]
2. eurofabio [GMT +10]
3. nicopenny [GMT 0]
4. IncrediSteve [GMT -5]

Map will follow shortly.

So normal civic improvement does not activate the city, but the Statesman ability activates it?

What's happen then if:

city is neutral
activate city
use the statesman ability on the same city? Will the city be neutral or happy? Because if it becomes neutral there is no reason to do it (after all I will be just throwing one happy token away)

Fabio, take a look at Caesar's ability: Statesman - Free action: Activate his city to perform a "Civic Improvement" action on it.

It of course doesn't make any sense to use it the way you did it, hence my hint to revise your move.

Ok, but am I allowed to redo my move? I think it will not impact on any other player, but I have to ask anyway. If I can redo I will do:

Irrigation
Civic Improvement
Collect

Please let me know if I can do it, so I will edit the post.
