Oriented towards creating a wealth of information to assist newer players in mastering elements of the game. Right now we're focusing on squadrons, but worry not: ships, commanders, upgrades, fleet build archetypes, usage guides/examples, objectives, etc. will all make their way there sooner or later. We update at least twice a week but so far it's been more like 4 times a week.

Let me know if you had any questions/critiques/requests/compliments/whatever. Hopefully you like what you see so far!

The tie advanced, the most worthless waste of points you can toss into your imperials fighter wing . Vader was situationally OK, but rather pricey. Zetrik may have hope in the fact 2 braces for 15 is his only saving grace. Proper escort cover means 3, and you really don't want 3 of those eating too much of your fighter wing. Generally better to just kill faster.

Some good articles for new players, keep it up.

Jackasses? You let a whole column get stalled and strafed on account of a couple of jackasses? What the hell's the matter with you?

There's a lot of good thoughts in there. The guy writing for the Imperial side is a much better writer than the Rebel player, but they're both communicating good ideas and options for players to learn about running their fleets. Thanks for sharing!

First of all, thanks!

Secondly, regarding the TIE Advanced: given I wrote the blog article on TIE Advanced and I recommend their use in certain circumstances I obviously disagree. They're quite good as accompaniments to bomber wings, although Tempest Squadron and Zertik are usually preferable to take over the base model for your first inclusion. I wouldn't go beyond two of them at the most in any given squadron configuration, and one is usually sufficient. The goal isn't to maintain perfect all-game coverage with them, just to keep your bomber support apparatus and/or aces intact for an extra turn, maybe two. That's usually sufficient to gain enough tempo prior to the TIE Advanced getting shot down.

In my experience people who seem to really hate TIE Advanced were hoping to use them like Imperial X-Wings but were disappointed. X-Wings are much better as multi-role squadrons (leaning more heavily towards the fighter role) that get some support work done with Escort. TIE Advanced are mostly there for Escort and have some small utility in being mediocre to poor multi-role squadrons. TIE Defenders on the other hand, are quite good at filling that fighter-bomber niche if so desired.

The problem with tempest is 5 hull, not really enough to make a dent. Intel is better served use of those points, and allows you to continue bombing. Two volleys, but your bombers are still tied, and don't do nearly a good a job shooting back.

As far as the illustrious combo Vader/Soontir, it is over very easy to maneuver such that you can just kill Soontir before Vader, a very costly 'combo' that 9/10 times doesn't actually get to be a combo.

It isn't that the tie advanced is 'hated', just that there are better tools at our disposal to achieve the same goals.

Thing is 134 pts is a very stringent limitation, you can't really bring much along that doesn't further your direct goal, so choosing to bring some support on a relatively expensive squadron that isn't actually GOOD at anything is a huge cost sink.

Tie/D are pretty fantastic anti-air squadrons, and the fact they can bomb makes them not ignorable. They are great in creating an air superiority build that can help finish the job when the fighter game ends. Rhymer can't hurt (and there is a reason he is often included regardless of build). The Tie/D are the well rounded fighter the imperials have been waiting for, they are the imperial x-wing. I know many a player who would prefer x-wings didn't have escort as well, the Biggs mustache ride [my name for a friends Biggs fleet] is changing that though.

All told Escort is often more liability than benefit. I'd very much prefer Vader not to have escort, he'd be more useful then. Escort is oddly an offensive maneuver, not a defensive one, you need to move them in AFTER everything is tied down, so you need the alpha strike, and the advanced doesn't bring much to the alpha strike table. Armada is, unfortunately, still much more offensive play oriented as well. Which is good for tempo I suppose.

Started reading your blog as have only dabbled in Armada (need to get fighters painted first!) This should get me back into game play in a more serious manner. Thanks for posting your blog.
