Anyone any idea when we should be expecting the French expansion, i.e. the expansion containing the French army (and possibly some French tanks as well (-;, on kickstarter?

I once read that should be some time in 2017, and since it is now 2017, it'd be great to have an update! I'm really looking forward to expanding my Great War collection!

I'm also looking forward to the special personnel figure expansion!

I actually have figures myself already. And sure, I could do that, but I'm just really looking forward to any word on PSC's plans for this year (and playing with the actual official rules), as this expansion is actually planned for this year.

Note that the GW figures are 15mm, which is more like 1/100 scale.

The 1/72 figs will be pretty large on the board, and 1/72 tanks Gi-normous.

I checked the Plastic Soldier Company web site today but there is no sign of a further expansion for this game. I sincerely hope that they do expand it.

If taken to the full extreme it could become a sophisticated version of Memoir 44 with fast moving battles across Europe and the Middle East in standard, epic and breakthrough formats. Battles would be fought by at least the eight major nations with planes, cavalry and all types of equipment.

However, I would be more than happy just to see the French and Russian expansions come to market.

We have been practically "promised" a complete package: air, special personnel, americans, french, russians, ottomans, austrians hopefully also the italians.

Of course everything always depends on sales, but this way obviously the game is far from complete. Also really hate the fact, for instance, that tide of iron never got to have a pacific exapnsion. Ww2 without the japanese?? Even though i love that particular game, had i known that beforehand, i never might have gotten involved in it. As far as that is concerned, it's sometimes better to restrict oneself to complete games ( with no obvious expansions)

It's always a risk buying into game systems. I bought into Tide of Iron just before it went west and so have all of the expansions in a new (unopened) or like new (unpunched)condition and paid a fortune for the North African expansion. I've not even got around to playing it yet but like you I was hoping for a Japanese expansion to complete the system (considering that there are two Russian expansions) but I suppose we will now never see that.

I own everything except the rucksack for Memoir 44 but have paid dearly for OOP stuff. To guarantee delivery of the latest expansion I bought from the USA and paid twice what I should have paid because of delivery and UK Import duties but I have it while it is still not on sale in the UK, as far as I know. But again, the system is very extensive and great fun to play at all levels. In short, games with expansions can keep you poor

However, I do find games with expansions quite exciting. Expansion 6 for CCN has for me completed a fantastic Napoleonic game system which has far exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations in my quest to find a good, light Napoleonic war game and there is obviously more stuff to follow. You couldn't possibly get so much out of a one-off game.

Minifigs has a very nice line of everyone you could need (except Italians), the French are in the wrong coats for Italians. peter pig I don't believe has them either. But everyone else is available. As far as specific rules, shouldn't be that hard. Americans are reckless, French are cautious, until you piss them off, then they are REALLY reckless. Russians? Well- they are Russians, rather die than run away. Turks? ????, Austrians and Italians are probably about the same, rather be some where else. Just my 2 pfennigs nags worth from readings.

This thread has been responsible for me playing this game again. I've been busy with CCN Ex6, Memoir's new Russian v. Japanese expansion and the new version of Hold the Line and so I'd forgotten how good it is.

Seriously, PSC, can we have an up date on the next expansion, please.

I purchased my Tanks Copy at SPIEL in ESSEN 2016 and talked to the PSC. They will launch a Kickstarter for the French. It's certain. But they're busy with other stuff too. But we will see the expansion.

So Patience

Very good news. It would be a shame to leave this series to gather dust for too long and see interest wain.

Indeed. We shouldn't forget that PSC is a manufacturer for Tabletop Miniatures. So the boardgame market is slightly new for them. Possibily they don't have the infrastructure and sales network of certain boardgame giants.

It will take some time and patience is the key here. In the meantime, there are other interesting games - like Battle of Britian (also from PSC)

As you say, Nick, PSC are new to board games and quite small.

They already have The Great War, Tank, the Hold the Line revamp and Battle of Britain chalked up to their credit. Not bad going in such a small space of time when board games are probably still a side line to their main offering.

In addition, Worthington told me that they plan to revamp Frederick's War (I'm not sure when, though) and they could do worse than get PSC involved in the design and manufacture of new minis for that game.

So, in short, PSC seem to have a lot going on.

PS. I still want the French, though

Oh I want them too! I'm currently playing Battlefield 1 at the moment and the French DLC was just released last week. It's not that historically accurate but still, wants me to play the French in the Great War Boardgame.

I could imagine that they're producing a Set which will give us French Soldiers (Infantry, Bombers, MG, Mortar) and also Tanks (Chaumond and Renaults) - along with that they will probably include more specialised german units (they only need a couple thanks to the rules).

Theme based they could give us Verdun as the first major scenario (with Germany attacking and the French defending). Especially the fight for the forts could be challenging and probably very interesting (I trust Mr. Borg's game design skills in that case ).
The other part could be the later battles 1917-18 with changing roles - Germany on the defense now (like in the Base Game) and the bluecoats attacking along their Tanks.

With French Tanks & the British Miniatures, we could also see some American Units and American Action.

I'll hope for more expansions. Especially the mountain war between the Austro-Hungarians and the Italians would be really interesting and give us a more unique playstyle.

A one-and-done French set would be welcome.

But if a French set (sans tanks) were released with the French army and Turkish army, you could do Gallipoli—or anywhere the Allies faced the Ottomans. That could open up a lot of possibilities.

Or a set featuring the French and American armies would go along way to rounding out the 1915–1918 Western Front. A follow-on set featuring the French tanks could then spotlight French and American actions with their tanks.

Same here. I had very high hopes for ToI. It was a sort of advanced Memoir. I always dreamt of a hybrid wargames (a boardgame-miniature game fusion) and though Memoir is very fun to play, ToI adds more complexity. The Great War is for me the most interesting lighter wargame for WWI out there. It would be awful if this would not be expanded with at least the French army and hopefully as well the Eastern and Italian front. Fingers crossed...
