This evening we will finally play MoM 2.0 (we never played the first edition). Since we play on our regular rectangular table (the one on which we usually fit Arkham Horror plus a big box expansion) we were wondering, once you place the first tile, if there is a preferred way for the playing area to develop.

For example, if the rooms mostly deploy going forward, then it is better to place the starting one near a shorter end of the table. If they do tend to deploy left and right, then the best place to start is near the longest side of the playing area.

And, of course, if there are no definite answers, then maybe it is better to start with the first tile in the middle of the table.

Any suggestions?

No definite answer. Usually it only develops outward and never back below the plane you started (so you could place the starting room on a close table edge), but that's not always the case.

I would say they generally deploy forwards and to the left and right.
This is not always the case but I usually start on the lower middle of the table with about 1-2 tiles worth of space to go back.

Recently in a certain scenario the playing area was much wider than usual, so that it almost didn't fit on the table (had to move investigator things a bit). But as has been said, the starting area is usually in the bottom center, but be prepared to move the tiles if the area suddenly grows to an unexpected direction.

Love 'em even if a few games get scuttled from time to time.

Sometimes you can guess based on the scenario, but it is a little unpredictable. Some expanded farther in some directions than we expected for sure.

I think starting in the middle is a safe choice. The tiles are fairly easy to slide around in "rows" if you just press the sides together lightly if you need to move it.
