President Donald J. Trump said Friday that sometime next week he will announce measures to increase national security. He did not say what they were.

“We’ll be doing something very rapidly having to do with additional security for our country. You’ll be seeing that sometime next week,” Trump said at a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/nation/2017/02/10/trump-say...

So basically it looks like we get get some more erosion of the nation's civil rights based on fear and bigotry. They could not even come up with any imminent threat for the appeal of their travel ban. This is such transparent horseshit that you would have to be a complete moron to buy into it.

And we are not even at the one month milestone for this nightmare of a presidency.

Well, he's never backed off the Muslim registration thing, so that would be my guess.

So basically pure speculation on this from you? Any proof that this will be a nightmare or are you just freaking out again?

I'm sure that whatever this is, it'll be well reasoned and with full respect for the law, just like everything else Trump has done.

Right now we have a president who issued an executive order that had Permenent Residents, stopped at the border, bullied into giving up thief green card and deported without a hearing. In defense of this order in court said President made the chilling argument that no such order, made for the security of the nation, was reviewable by the judiciary for constitutionality.

One would have to be dumber than dirt not to be concerned about the announcement of further security measures by the same President. Even if one was convinced that he was not the "sort" of person who these would be directed at

I think it's interesting that it's not common knowledge that while the "ultimate" goal of extremist Islamic terrorism is the destruction of the west, the achievable, immediate goal is the elimination of the "middle" and the radicalization of as many Muslims as possible.

Policies which appear to be arbitrary and designed to specifically harm Muslims for the crime of being Muslim, especially in the face of no legitimate serious security threat seems like a good way to assist with that goal and a bad way to achieve anything of significance, considering that we haven't had a major domestic terror attack since 9/11, thus "ramping up" security seems unnecessary and harmful in the long term to American security interests.

I think the same thing is basically true of our drone program, though I guess it's possible that without our "murder from the sky" approach to international terrorism we might be having more terror attacks - I think since drone strikes are an act of war, once they're completed, the goals and the results of said strikes should be published openly so the American public can decide.

It gives a heads up to liberals to not set up any new important appointments in the evening next week, as there's a good chance for some good old protesting.

The inferno of the living is not something that will be; if there is one, it is what is already here, the inferno where we live every day, that we form by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it. The first is easy for many: accept the inferno and become such a part of it that you can no longer see it. The second is risky and demands constant vigilance and apprehension: seek and learn to recognize who and what, in the midst of inferno, are not inferno, then make them endure, give them space.

Radical Islamism has the same goals as theocracy in Civ II--in order to defeat a theocracy, you must become a theocracy.

"However, citizens will never be unhappy for any reason, and city improvements that make citizens content instead produce gold equal to the number of contented citizens it would have made. Fundamentalist governments can also make use of the Fanatics unit, which are always free. Because of the religious zeal, each city can support eight units for free. Because of its science penalty and free support, as well as the fact that civil disorders can never occur in a fundamentalist government, fundamentalism is an ideal government for warmongering." - Civ Fanatics

The knuckledragging right have steadfastly refused to understand this. Even that Dubya guy (who was pilloried as a War Criminal himself) understood that attacking Islam meant giving extremists exactly what they want. Even warhawk Hillary understood that. But we are now in a time of no nuance, we are in a time of bricks to the face.

Is Trump deliberately looking to trigger more terrorist violence?

That would enable him to curtail American freedoms in trade-offs against homeland security.

Anything else?
