I haven't bought the game as yet. I'm wondering if its possible to play the World at War variant with less than 6-7 players. Specifically 4 players. Or is there any variants that effectively allow play using both the Westeros and Essos boards with 4 players?

Thanks for any suggestions.

The two boards together create a LOT of territory, so 4-5 players will have a huge amount of terrain to conquer, get lots of extra armies, and create a very swingy game.

My first impulse would be to do the following:

1) only use a couple of the regions across the Narrow Sea and not Slavers Bay or the Dothraki Sea/inland Essos regions. This way you have more ports in play from Braavos down to Lys, but not too many more castles and territories.

2) To counterbalance the added territories, remove Dorne (and the Iron Islands?) from play (making their territories impassable) and use House Targaryen as the fifth house instead of House Martell.
