Yippee! We have cracked into double digits for contest entries. Currently running at one new entry per working day, in case that means anything...

Keep 'em coming, and let's get stuck into some playtesting of the ones already there!

Entry Honeysuckle Harvest - Component Ready

A game in which the board, a honeysuckle vine, is built as you go along (and thus different each time) while your baby/larval ladybirds search it for food.

Being an enthusiastic entomologist, I can't help myself making the theme scientifically as accurate as I can make it, and therefore educational too. The enemies will be real species in the UK.

PLAYTESTER SPOT PRIZES

I've been thinking about the aim of this contest, which is to produce as many great games as possible. And to do that we don't just need games, we also need playtesters. So, to encourage playtesting I have decided to implement a system of spot prizes. Here's how it works...

Each week I will declare one or more component-ready games that haven't had a lot of recent attention by playtesters. These will be the target games for playtesting that week.

At the end of the week I will review the target game threads and tip a prize to the playtester(s) who I felt gave the most useful feedback to the designer.

Spot prizes will start at 10 , plus any donations tipped to the post where I announce the target games. And of course designers or anyone can also tip any playtesters that they think have been doing a good job

Weekly spot prizes will run from now until the "submissions close" deadline.

These prizes will replace the "Best playtester" prize that has been awarded at the end of many recent contests. The idea is that playtesting should be ongoing, and the spot prizes will enable us to focus attention on some games that for whatever reason aren't attracting as much attention as others.

So let's get playtesting!
JK

PLAYTESTER SPOT PRIZES: WEEK 1

See this post for background on the playtester spot prizes.

In one week's time I will award a spot prize for the most useful feedback given between now and then on one of the following games:

Kathmandu by Rey Alicea
Kathmandu is a cross between Rummy and Jaipur.

Knossus by Andrew Dunbar
A board based exploration/monster hunt set in the Labyrinth of Knossus where King Minos kept the legendary Minotaur. Players take the role of the young men and women of Athens selected for sacrifice - the objective being to enter the labyrinth and kill the Minotaur before he kills you!

I will award 10 . Please tip this post to add to this spot prize. For every extra 10 donated to the prize pot an additional playtester will be rewarded!

WINNERS

Only two valid playtests this week, so the prize pot has been split between them at 18.5 each.

bag Andrew Dunbar for feedback on Kathmandu

bag C.L. for feedback on Knossus

The 100 generously donated by Kai Scheuer will be held over and used across future weeks.

I just wanted to point out that

game-icons.net

now offers the option to colour each shape separately and with effects, also:

Just in case, anyone of you needs some cool graphics for his game ...

PLAYTESTER SPOT PRIZES: WEEK 2

See this post for background on the playtester spot prizes.

In one week's time I will award a spot prize for the most useful feedback given between now and then on one of the following games:

Intruders On Our Seas by Scott Allen
Intruders On Our Seas is a 2 player game played on a 19x19 grid board where the players each play a powerful spirit that summons sea monsters to protect the sea from the onslaught of human explorers.

Karnak & Louxor by Olivier Shiperu
This is a 10 minute card game that sees two opposing high priests of ancient Egypt trying to build the gods' most favoured temple (Karnak or Louxor).

I will award 10 from the 100 generously donated by Kai Scheuer.

Please tip this post to add to this spot prize. For every extra 10 donated to the prize pot an additional playtester will be rewarded!

WINNERS

Thanks to generous tips, I have three prizes of 12 to award this week. The prizes go to:

bag Sindre Finnøy for feedback on Intruders On Our Seas

bag Ghislain Leveque for feedback on Karnak & Louxor

bag David Sals for feedback on Karnak & Louxor

Last week's winners were announced here.

Thank you to all playtesters - keep up the good effort!

Thanks John. The game is now played on a 19x19 grid. Can you update that maybe here but especially in the first post of this thread?

Thanks.

My first contest entry and second post to BGG ever (the first post being the WIP one)

Horde Valley is a 2-player abstract game, with fun monsters and lots of shifting tactics. Usually 20 to 40 minutes to play.

Photos to come, but the components ready to download.

Please check it out here, and thanks for your feedback!

You were right about it might need a tweak - reduced vibrancy and brightness for the boards and redid the sections to keep units and board to same scale and now have the final full pdf (28 pages) for Alchelemental for the contest.

New category: BEST DECK & DICE GAME

To qualify for this award your game must use ONLY standard 54-card playing decks (any number of these) and dice (any number in any shape).

Hi John,

Does the game need to have both a 54-card deck and some number of dice to qualify? Or could it just be a deck game, or just a dice game?

Answering, as I introduced that category:
Deck & Dice means, you have to use cards AND dice with both being the only components of your game.

Kind regards,
Kai
