I'm looking for a nice little game (read: cheap, my budget is around 15 €/$/whatever) to give to a friend as a gift. He's not really into dry or the classic euro-style themes, which means he probably won't like a game about trading in the Mediterranean or building a farm/village. He will however enjoy zombies, fantasy, sci-fi or otherwise suggestive themes, even if the mechanics of the game are euro-like (without being totally pasted on). Besides that, I know he often plays with his wife and some times with more friends, so a game that plays 2-4 players would be ideal.

Do you guys have any recommendation for me that I can find these days at my FLGS?

Maybe check out Artifacts, Inc.. It's a small sized game that's pretty interesting. I love the theme and artwork, and it plays 2 to 4 players.

It seems it's available in your country, but may be a bit higher than 15 euros.

There aren't a ton of games in that price range that will provide any sort of lasting enjoyment.

Some to consider as a starting point games are:

Star Realms
Hero Realms

I say starting point, as if he likes and enjoys them, he can get expansions for them down the line.

a couple of Daniels Solis' games come to mind;

Koi Pond: A Coy Card Game - great at 2 player (my wife's favorite to play with me) - works to 4 player.

Kodama: The Tree Spirits plays to 5, different, good looking and thematic.

and one more idea; Sushi Go!

not sure about foreign availability - mail order?

+1 for Star Realms and particularly Hero Realms.

I would also recommend Tiny Epic Galaxies.

Welcome to the Dungeon is a great little push your luck game with a fantasy theme. I don't know how to check availability in other countries....but it is around $15 here in the states.

+1 for Welcome to the Dungeon and/or Welcome Back to the Dungeon.

Also consider card games, like Biblios and Bohnanza. Themes are pretty thin, but have sound game mechanics..

If he watches Game of Thrones, this is a nice option: A Game of Thrones: Hand of the King.

A slightly different suggestion, but you could look at Innovation

Interesting mechanics, expandable if you like it, a bit wild and unpredictable and definitely plays 3-4 (not sure about 2).

Tiny Epic Galaxies -- 1-5 players. It lists for $25, but it's about $21.00 on Amazon; you may find it cheaper elsewhere. I've played it a few times, and it's a good game for the money.

For that price maybe:

Port Royal
Schotten Totten (or battle line)

Beasty Bar and GUBS: A Game of Wit and Luck are fun too and +1 for Dead Man's Draw

I can only think of ones that are more on the casual side for that price like Camel Up

Wow, that's a lot of very nice recommendations! I think I'll look into Hero Realms and GOT: Hand of the King (he is indeed a big fan of GOT). Smash Up! is also a good recommendation, but it turns out that he already has it. Well, an expansion to it is something that I can have as a backup plan .

Thanks guys for your replies!
