This is era13's entry for the 2017 Two-Player Pnp Design Contest.

Birds of the Heir
by Reed Ambrose

Players: 2
Game Time: 10-20 minutes
Ages: 10+

Current Phase: Component Phase

Overview
Antarctica is in anarchy. The pecking order of penguins is extinct.
Who will waddle to power? Manage your cards to place your birds,
split the ice, and gain control of the frozen land. May the best bird win!

Story
Suspicious activity is happening in Antarctica: whispers along the coast,
huddles across the land, somethings in the air. Not since the Ice Age has
the icy landscape known a dominant species, but things are heating up in
the South Pole, and it's not just the weather. Emperors, kings, and other
royal penguins sense the approach of the Fire Age. The throne is yours for
the taking… or as the penguins say, "One wing to rule them all."

Components
54 Cards
30 Six-sided dice w/pips (15 white, 15 black)
4 Six-sided dice w/ or w/out pips (2 red, 2 blue)

OR if you don't have that many dice, play the 2D version
by using this sheet: 2D Cutout Version

Dito! I love how the image is a card with two penguins having dice showing the 1 face as head ...

Perfectly fitting the components

Kind regards,
Kai

I really want to help you playtest the game.
The cards look super cute, the game seems fun and you were a great help on Fireball.

BUT 30 DICE!?
Gonna have to try and find an app for that..

In my head-cannon our games are connected and the mages from Fireball!×3 are actually penguins.

I do realize that's a lot of dice blush I hope it won't be too much of a hinderance though. I've thought to drop it recently and could possibly take away 3 white and 3 black dice but it's still a lot of dice. At least it's a typical playing piece?? They don't have to be white and black either, any colors work. So long as you can distinguish whose dice is whose.

Haha this is great! I didn't even think about your game causing the Fire Age but it's true.

Chessex sells packs of 36 dice for like 10 bucks.
And they do feel damn good, gliding through your hands ...

I'm sure

Damn, you made me search for chessex at work.
IT will probably misunderstand that and give me some weird stares.

I found a free app called DnDice where you can simulate as many multiple dice at the same time as you want.
If each player has this app on their phone that could be a good alternative to swimming in dice at home.

You do need actual physical dice to place on the board. I've thought about making it on TableTopia but haven't begun that process yet.

How about tokens with numbers for placing?
Either homemade or something you could provide.
