Hey there, I'm outside of North America so I'm very lucky that my gf got someone to send a second-hand copy of EtB to my country!
I'm a big fan of the more complex game so it's only natural I'd start comparing them.

The food tokens are still double-sided but just have plants on both sides?
I'm assuming this wasn't an error, just a simplification? A carnivore bites another creature and gets plant tokens?

Also since there's no body-size restrictions, carnivores without other traits or the same traits can bite each other? Carnivore A bites Carnivore B who then bites Carnivore A in the next person's turn?

That's an intriguing difference since in the "full game" there's that hierarchy given by body size - you can only bite species smaller than you - so if Carnivore A bites Carnivore B then Carnivore B won't be able to bite back. (hmm until you get Pack Hunting I guess)

Food tokens are food tokens. Whether chomped out of another dino or from the trees. At least, that was my reading of it.

First there was Hearts, then there was Spades, and now we bring you Clubs. The suit of clubs finally gets some respect!

Yep, just reducing the number of questions that are asked by casual gamers.

Yep, this leads to a bit of a different strategy. It's usually better to wait until you have enough cards to kill off the entire species than to eat a few Population and get the favor returned the next turn. Knowing how to bide your time and go on the offensive at the right time is one of the interesting aspects of the 2-player game in The Beginning.

Make sure to play it 2-player sometime. That's where it really shines for gamers. It get increasingly casual with each additional player.

As luck would have it, I've only played it 2 player so far, but look forward to more players shortly.
