Well drat! As far as I knew time travel was only in the realm of fiction... but I get what you might be after.

So time travel in a scientific / philosophical sense but without it being too heady. That's hard to come by as time is NOT trivial nor easy when you start really digging into it. If you want to understand the philosophical underpinnings in time travel, perhaps you might find something of interest in the more general study of "time".

So maybe...

Time Reborn

Time and Space

or for something really approachable and directly related, try...

Time Travel: A History

Well for the effects of Relative Time Travel, I would suggest the "The Forever War" by Joe Haldeman.

Technically we are all in a time machine that moves us into the future at a rate of 1 day/day..... whistle

No help on non-fiction. I do seem to recall a book on black holes that touched on it by Carl Sagan, I think.

I had this one when I was younger, and loved it. (Pub. 1979)

I don't know if it holds up under the latest interpretations of physics; I am not a physicist.

But it discusses wormholes and the possibility of time travel using them. I can't remember if it goes into tachyons, though.

Not a book but a quick little read online about the philosophy of time travel.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

I realize that it's not what you're looking for, but James P. Hogan's Thrice Upon A Time explores sending information, not people, back through time.
