I just picked up the new iello version of Diamant. On the second play we ran out of gems. Luckily I have some extra plastic blue gems I bought from Michael's for counters for Martian Dice. We counted the blue gems as 10's. This was a three player game. The final score was 100 to 116 to 69. The game comes with 260 points worth of gems ( 60 red 1 pointers and 40 white 5 pointers). There is no rule in the book about running out of gems (that I can see).

Question:
What do you do when you run out of gems?

My first question is... are you sure you're playing it correctly?

I have over 20 plays of Incan Gold logged, and the highest score anyone has ever gotten is 41.

We've run out of gems. It happens. We use pennies or whatever and everything is fine.

Pretty sure we are playing right. In this particular game no one fell in a trap and we had 3 relics claimed.

Ah, I just noticed you were playing 3 player. Maybe that might have made a difference. I pretty much never open this box if I don't have at least 5 players.

As far as I know the tokens are not meant to be limited, so yes, just use whatever you like as substitutes.
