You might get more/better responses if you ask on the 1 Player guild.

Roll Through the Ages: The Iron Age and Imperial Settlers are good choices. Neither one is a "true" civ game but they give the feeling and are strong solo games.

Also, there is a great solo variant for Sid Meier's Civilization: The Board Game, just search in the forums. You lose out on some exploration, but it works well and give the feeling of being a fledgling nation struggling to keep the barbarians at bay.
