We are feeling our way through the Pyrrhus scenario, using the updated rules available from GMT. I think we have a decent handle on the basic mechanics but have some questions about more advanced rules.

a) Can the Praetor Urbanus take legions from the command of the Rome Consul and move them out into a Proconsul's consular army? RRR 5.18 says "he may move legions (up to two double legions) that start in Rome to other locations...". However RRR 5.21 states that "Magistrates are not only capable of commanding the armies allowed as per RRR 5.19, but they may also attach - and campaign with - the forces commanded by subordinates, magistrates lower on the hierarchy.." RRR 5.1 states that the Praetor Urbanus is treated as a Praetor for hierarchy, lower than a Consul. Failing this, can he take the Urban Legions to a Consular Army and have them join the Consular army?

b) If the Augury event that brings the Carthaginians in on the Roman side is rolled, do the Romans/Carthaginians also control the initial Western Sicily units despite the fact that Pyrrhus may not have "set foot in Sicily" yet?

c) We assumed that when b) happened that the two LAM for Mago and a LAM for Sositratus was placed in the pool. Do the Mamertines get a tribal activation marker and leader as well?

d) For province control the player must either occupy cities or move the diplomatic marker to the "4" box. However military control takes precedence, correct? And also, either military or diplomatic control is sufficient to allow manpower to be raised in a province, correct?

e) At the beginning of the game are the cities in the "uncontrolled" provinces like Apulia considered to be uncontrolled?

f) It seems strange that gaining diplomatic control of a province does not grant control (or at least "uncontrol" by the other player) of unoccupied small cities. Especially since it seems like unoccupied large/medium cities can be taken just by walking in. I think it would be reasonable to make small cities "uncontrolled" when the province changes sides unless the city is occupied by troops of the other side.

Seems the best source for rules clarifications is the Consimworld Forum - got a pretty good response from Alan Ray on these questions.
