As I go through the rules and test out the play, I have come across a bunch of counters, all the same with no explanation on what to do with them. They have a blue border with a star shape inside. On the other side is another star shaped item with a tail around a thin blue border. The only place I can find them in the rule book is on page 41 in the center of the page at the top under Variable Wind Directions.

Anyone know what these are and what to do with them? I'm sure someone knows.

By the way, love the game and am buying most of the ships and double mats and joining up on the Anchorage forum site.

one of the points on the star has a symbol on it and if you look
closely you will see each token has one of the compass directions
highlighted in red, each in a different position relative to the symbol.

so i think the star represents a compass, the symbol indicates north,
the highlighted points indicate a new wind direction and the idea is
to draw one randomly to determine a starting wind direction.

That is cool. Did you make that up?

Seriously I wish the rule book had this explanation. But I like yours. Thanks.

I believe that is correct. It's for choosing a random starting wind direction.

Yes. Rules are not very detailed, but at page 41 column 2 they say that:

Quote:
The direction of the wind at the start of the game may be indicated by the scenario, mutually agreed between the players, or determined randomly using the Wind Direction counters.

They're also shown on page 58, which helps link them to the rule Andrea quoted above.
