I've got a Specialist: Fields
He's got his 4 base action cards of course.
He's got one rank, Private.

So which of these cards am I allowed
to add to his 4 Base cards to complete
his Action Deck for the game:

3 Any
2 Pre-Empt
1 Hide or Move
1 Move or Look
1 Hide
1 Shoot
1 Move

Thanks

As I understand it, all of them. You could use him as a somewhat normal soldier wit just the last 3 from the list but as a specialist you have the option of using all of them.

From the 2.0 version of the rulebook:

With regards to Specialists and the number of cards they can use for that soldier, at the bottom of page 25, it says, "The use of Story Cards, Equipment Cards, Preempt Cards, React Cards and Command Cards are optional - the player may choose to use all, some or none. Not all Specialists will have each type of card."

Also, there are a couple important notes on page 27 with regards to these cards.

Important: "Dog Tag Actions are NOT permitted with the use of React Cards and players may NOT React to an opponent's React."

Important: "React Cards, Command Cards and the "Random Event" listed on a Specialists Story Card are only played if the Specialitst is alive and on the game board. Once a Specialist is killed or exits the game board, then the React and Command Cards become non-playable, "dead" cards. When drawn at the beginning of a turn, "dead" cards remain in the player's hand until the turn is over and then are discarded."

FYI - Command Cards are the ones with ANY on them

Observation - the second Important Note above doesn't mention that Preempt Cards are "dead" cards. I would think that that omission was an oversight and I would personally play them the same as the other Specialist Cards in that regard.

I don't really use the preempt or react cards...but the others are fun to use. You can add them all but be aware of the point penalties if you play them.

I'm sorry, what do you mean that Pre-Empt cards are "dead" cards?

Do you mean that that particular Specialist must be alive in order to play it??

Stephen, with regards to the Preempt cards, that was only my personal opinion and observation. Those weren't mentioned in the Important Note sidebar on that page of the rules. Only the Command (Any), Story and React were mentioned as being "dead"cards".

To me, and this is just my opinion, it would make sense for the Preempt cards to be included in that list, since they are all part of a specific specialist's set if cards.

You don't have to play it like that if you don't want since preempt was left out of that sidebar note.

Also, I would look into seeing if you could get a newest version of the rulebook from Lost Battalion Games. It would help a lot since it has more of the finer details in it.

The newest version I have is from the Red Devils set, which was the next one after the 1.72 or whatever version I had gotten from my first Sergeants set. I believe the one I have is 2.0. I don't know if there is a 2.1. The SHOW rules didn't come with a new version of the base game rules.

I would contact Lost Battalion Games and inquire about whether there is a PDF of the updated rules or if you can somehow get a physical copy of the latest base game rulebook.
