Looking for a Light/medium weight card game that works well with two players doesn't have to be strictly two players, just play well with two. any recommendations? Thanks :-)

Any mage vs. mage game really:
Gruff is especially fun!
Ashes: Rise of the Phoenixborn I haven't tried but it's bound to work and pretty popular
Summoner Wars and so on...

Deckbuilders usually work well with two:
Ascension: Deckbuilding Game is cool if you don't mind the randomness
Star Realms is random also but plays fast and well
Aeon's End is a co-operative games that is very good at two players.

Other great 2 player games:
Sentinels of the Multiverse just control 2 characters each
Seasons especially if you both learn it together
Onirim and Sylvion have very interesting 2 player versions!

Games that work with 2 players but aren't as good as with 3 players:
Arctic Scavengers as the final phase isn't as interesting
Vikings Gone Wild just doesn't click
GOSU 2: Tactics is a bit too brutal as you don't spread negative effects among 2 opponents. It's still good though.

+1 to Famiglia !

Jaipur is another very fine light/medium game for two players only.

Call to Glory is a fine lightweight game for two, and scales quite well for three players.

Fairy Tale of you like card rafting.

I also found Parade to be good with 2.

Rune Age; 4 scenarios (game modes). The co-op, the race for money (the Monument) and the race for military (Dragonlords) work well. (I have to play Dragonlords more though)
Not sure about the PvP one (Runewars) but at least it would end immediately a player dies...

Personally, I think the OP needs to provide a little more detail to get recommendations that are useful. What we have is like me asking "I need a good board game that will comfortably fit on a kitchen table. Any suggestions?".

He asked for a light/medium weight card game that works well for 2 players. What's your favorite game that fits in that category?

I think you're overthinking this.

Thanks. I must have missed that. I was ready to list about 3000 games. You just narrowed it down to about 2800.

Some of my recommendations would be;

Hanabi (20-35mins) Has the bonus of being Cooperative!
DC Comics Deck-Building Game (30-45mins) (ANY of the DC Deckbuilding games would work, or most deckbuilders)
Sushi Go! (10-15mins)
Love Letter (5-10mins)
Morels (20-40mins)
Karmaka (15-30mins)
Sleeping Queens (5-10mins)
King's Kilt (25-40mins)
Exploding Kittens (5-15mins)
IOTA (20-30mins)

I mainly play games with just my partner, and we like a whole range of games from light weight (sushi go, sleeping queens) to heavy (scythe, viticulture). I also work at my FLGS. Happy to elaborate on any if you have any questions
