Ramping up my reviewing.
Happily playing games for many, many years.
Just before I headed off home, our normal end-game of San Juan.
I had a much better game this time, whilst Randy attempted his Chapel strategy. However, without the benefit of the Prefecture and other card drawing engines, Randy quickly found himself lagging behind in buildings built.
I began the game with a Tobacco Plant and a Market Hall, and used those to generate good income to Randy's "not much", and as Randy moved to a more Production-based game with the Tobacco Plant and Coffee Plantation, I used a Crane to replace my Indigo Plant with a Quarry, and moved into a heavy-purple strategy.
Merric: 44 (25 buildings, 2 chapel, 17 large buildings)
Randy: 33 (15 buildings, 12 chapel, 6 palace)
Our final cities looked like:
Merric (12 buildings)
Quarry; Tobacco; Market Hall; Prefecture; Crane; Library
City Hall; Carpenter; Chapel; Hero; Victory Column; Triumphal Arch
Randy (8 buildings)
Indigo; Chapel; Smithy; Tobacco; Coffee; Library
Palace; Victory Column
